I have [and I'm sure a lot of you have too] noticed the increasing amounts of new threads/topics on Derren Brown! Well, my idea is that this thread can be the one where people can post whatever they like on Derren Brown, (within the rules and etiquette of the Café) and you just keep checking on it to see where the topic and discussion goes! This will save lots of new threads being made on different DB subjects, as people can just post them here? Please note I am not trying to be like one of the Café staff, I just thought it was a good idea!

So, anyone got anything to start us off with??

No. Derren Brown is exciting and interesting. Why shouldn't we talk about him? Maybe when he doesn't have a TV show running there will be less talk about him. There is nothing wrong for those who want to talk about him. If you don't want to, then don't.

One of the main problems with this is that the UK folks are sick of it, but us USA people want to know more because we are more limited to our Derren access.

How about a Derren Free forum...Now that is something we really need.

Given that this is the mentalism forum, and Derren is pretty much at the top of the pile at present, it seems a good idea to encourage healthy debate about his wonderful shows.

The man is good at what he does, is fresh and interesting...what's wrong with that? Lets stick together and encourage him, we can learn a lot I feel.

I know there is a discussion about humour in mentalism somewhere around here, I was trying to be light hearted about the whole thing...lol

It's easy, why don't you start a private news group with yahoo! And invite anyone who wants to join your new religion. It took me about 10 minutes to set one up for the IA pads. You could do it easily for your God.

That way you only have people who have same religion (the Derren clones) as you. You will be the moderator so you can talk about anything you want. And the rest of us will be happy too, apparently you're not supposed to discuss religion at the Café.

derren brown is a succesful, entertaining exponent of mentalism...

its only natural people want to discuss him.
the same thing happened with blaine, yeah he got his wannabees, but every other "proper" magician got the hump because they were more intersted in blaine than them.

whats wrong with accepting there are some good acts out there and enjoying them.

as for the yahoo group, this IS a mentalism forum..why go elsewhere?

I think the problem would be solved if everyone posted Derren stuff to a single thread. We already have a 5+ page DB thread and all of the DB questions should be posed to that thread. There's just too many DB threads here.

Its at times like this when the profile of magicians in general is raised. it seems there are always people who want to talk about it and find out more.
Why discourage them? I know we've got our secrets to protect, but its not friendly when newbies out there are pushed away by "elitist" types.

I am going to see the premiere on the 7th at the palace theater... Should I watch the tv special or not? I ve heard there might be some similarities.. I wouldnt want to spoil the live experience...

You guys have unmoderated groups all about Derren so everyone there will be happy to discuss nothing else But Derren.....this is a general forum. Why can't you go there and get it out of your system.....don't you newbies realise its constant threads like this that drive the pros away so in the end you miss out........its this kind of posting that create elitists you talk about.

Then quit talking...actually just for fun I went to the forum nikodini found...nothing but porn...but I did learn something while I was there. And just like parents who think the devil is in the tv....you can always turn the channel if you don't like what you see...if a topic has the words Derren and Brown, don't look...go somewhere else...until Steve makes it illegal to talk about him, people still will!

Calm down guys! It's just a few posts on Derren Brown! When his series has finished and the Séance is over, the obsession will die down.
Anywya as I said before, who cares if theres so mcuh DB? If you don't want to talk about it don't come in here. Just because you are a pro yourself shrink and you seem to rate yourself so highly doesn't mean you have to have a go at all these 'newbies' who enjoy Derren's style and performance.
