Hi Everyone.

So some years ago I managed to get my hands on a Steve Baker Challenge belt. I say "a belt", it is Number 1 out od the 25 made (I think). I paid ... well, a lot for it.

What I am wondering is what do people think it is worth?

Here are a couple of Magic Café Links to discussions about the belts...

As I am jobless at the moment and am about to be ...well struggling... I am considering selling off some stuff. t his maybe one of the things I am selling. I'm not sure yet.

This is a tough one, Dave.

Parts? I guess it is worth just over $100. Labor to make it? No clue here. Steve sold them for I think $350 U.S.D. If I remember right. I guess he probably made around $100 on each belt. A lot of this is conjecture though.

I guess the real value comes in what you think his name is worth. I hate to say this as I liked him personally and marked him as one of my mentors, but his name did not stand the test of time. I don't know that having been designed and built by him adds much real value to it.

Of course, the real value comes from what someone is going to do with it. If it works well in someone's act, then it is far more valuable. As a collectible maybe not as much.

Did that help at all?

I am not sure I agree with you about his name not enduring. I think he is has lasted - amoungst EAs not necessarily the public - but I do think he is remembered well.

I may well be wrong there - but I guess we'll see - in terms of replies here.
