LOTS of shell games on YouTube but nothing using the magnet - I just purchased a set and was trying to use my "chop cup" experience but does not translate very well. Any ideas?

I have not bought them yet. They appear to have the standard shell gimmick in addition to being magnetic. The standard gimmick looks more subtle and hidden than other shell sets which is a plus. It could just be camera angles though. I think the video ad for this is the best I have seen for magnetic shells. When I watched it a while back it peaked my interest in the magnetic gimmick and made me rethink it. But video ads are staged to show you all the good stuff and none of the bad. Hopping the shells is something that really needs to be done right in your routine. I would avoid hopping the shell the pea was last seen under. But it could be used as a verification that the pea is not under the other shells yet during the shuffle.

I am generally against hopping the shells while shuffling. When you hop the shells peoples first thought is magnets or it is sticking to the inside of the shell somehow. Even when I do just the standard sliding moves people guess magnets are involved in the shell game. Which makes no sense but people still say it. The shell game is great without the hopping. Most routines don't use hopping to shuffle the shells. It is used for reveals and setting the shells up like you see in the three shell boot camp routine.

And you don't need magnets to hop the shells anyways. You can use the standard moves and hop any shells that are empty.

The main question about them should be how the magnetic release is done. Can it be done like SFS shells or is it like a CC. The video shows the reveals as always being a slide back. Can the shell be slid forward and just lifted normally for the reveal? It all depends on how they are built. Depending on how they operate, you could have two sets of magnetic shells that are basically two different gimmicks. From the moves I saw in the video ad these seem to be on the lower end of magnetic shells.

If you are a collector or don't have a set of magnetic shells, and want some, then these might be a good choice. I think there are better shells to collect. You can make most shells magnetic yourself and choose how you want the releasing to be done. For the money I would buy a different set of shells which is why I don't have this set yet.

These look interesting. I may look into purchasing magnetic shells in the future, I'm currently keeping busy learning routines with my standard shells. I purchased the Top Shelf Vintage shells from 3shells.com. I have been really happy with mine.
