So I guess you are still looking for instructions. There must be a good reason Peter Loughran will not provide you with the instructions. I note you have been asking for this the last several years. Maybe he hasn't sold any of this illusion, and that is why no one has assisted you.

Yes, I have been in contact with him. He has sold some. This is when he was printing instructions and after the fire in their workshop he doesn't have access to them anymore.

David, really, he can only write instructions to a effect he invented and made one time. Really, he totally forgot what he invented and how his routine and working was created. Then I guess he is totally out of business. I thought before you can print anything, it has to be written, and he did not follow backup procedures, if computerized.

Bill,

There are some reasons he can't recall that I'm not comfortable mentioning here. If Peter would like to chime in and explain, he can. If you are suggesting some other reason, I'm not sure I like the implication.

Hey guys sorry I’m not here as often. A friend pointed me to this thread.

Bill I’m not sure why you think you are an expert on a matter which you know nothing about. You really should just keep some of your thoughts to yourself. Our last meeting in this forum, you were condoning purchasing rip off products from China, yikes!

The situation is unfortunate. Poltergeist was one of the very first big illusions I ever invented and started selling close to 20 years ago. We did sell quite a few of these, and many were sold through Hocus Pocus magic shop. Some well known performers bought this illusion including Lawrence Khong and John Mendoza.

However back then I just starting out building props, I had a friend of mine who worked at a university who was typing up and printing all my instructions for this and a couple of other earlier products like my Zombie Coffin.

She printed enough copies for me of each manuscript to last a lifetime. I never had a digital copy of this manuscript. I had pieces of the original on a hard disc, but alas after battling and surviving a battle with cancer in 2013, just a year after, another tragedy struck and my entire workshop caught fire and burned to the ground, and the disc and printed copies (along with so many other irreplaceable items) were lost in the fire. If you go to my facebook page you can see a couple of illusions I restored already from the fire. I’m still restoring props that had a lot of sentimental value to me.

David contacted afterwards and said he had a used Poltergeist which I think he was trying to resell, and he asked if I had a copy of the instructions, and I told him they were lost, and his best bet would be to find someone who had one.

After extensive chemo and radiation treatments, I can tell you that my memory of some things is worse than it used to be. I have also not built a Poltergeist in over twelve years since the launch of my electronic one man versions of the animation illusions I offer came out, and I can’t remember everything what was written in the lengthy manuscript that I wrote 20 years ago. I couldn’t even tell you how many pages it was, my guess is 15- 20 but I might be way off. I have written a gazillion instruction booklets over the years and it’s hard to remember one I wrote two decades ago.

I told David the gist of it but told him I couldn’t remember everything that was written in the manuscript, as there was a lot of subtleties and important info that I surely wouldn’t remember. Because we never sell these anymore due to our newer electronic versions, I have never needed to re-write the manuscript, and I can’t really see us selling another one, so it doesn’t make sense for me to spend the many many hours it would take to rewrite and layout a new manuscript for a product I will probably never sell again.

I apologized to David for not being of much help. But this is not my fault, the person who sold David the illusion should be the one responsible for supplying all the materials needed to perform the effect including the secret and the instructions that were originally sold with the illusion, and it’s not my responsibility to make sure instructions are supplied to buyers of used equipment from third party sales.

David maybe contact one of the magicians I mentioned above, or maybe hocus pocus can lead you to a buyer who has one.

Best wishes,

P.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the clarification on the situation. I'm sorry you had to spill personal details to do so.

I hope you never felt like I was holding you responsible or felt I was upset because you couldn't help because that was never the case. I appreciate all the help you've given on this. I'll check in with those two people you mentioned and I figured by posting periodically someone who still owned one may see the post and reply. Be well, Peter, and thank you!

Sincerely,
David

Peter it is of course not your responsibility to supply instructions, it is just the way David expressed it. Thanks for chiming in, but it was not necessary to explain.

Work on getting and staying well.

He's trying to shift the blame on you after coming across as an ass for no reason.
