I have just picked up a couple of t. nelson downs palming coins dated 1904. Does any one know any history behind the coins? Were they only produced to be used/ given out at shows? Did magic shops supply them? Did he have all his coins made with the 1904 date on them? If so is this date significant?

Any history behind these coins would be much appreciated as would any anicdotes about the man himself.

The only thing I remember reading about the T. Nelson palming coins is that he recommended them for his "A Coin Act and A Coin Ladder" routine in "The Art of Magic". The coins are described as being well suited for the effect because "the edge is higher than the center... they stack evenly" I also want to say that he describes the updates to "Miser's Dream" in "The Art of Magic" using his palming coins as well, but I'm not sure of that.

Wish I knew more about them. At any rate, a great find for you, enjoy the coins!

Best,

Mike
