Don't forget the creekmore dancing putter and dancing pool cue. They work well with a ball routine. It doesn't have to be a cane.

You are right about the golf club or the pool cue. Both of these items open the performer up for a different type of an act idea. They add a bit more creativity to it.

I recieved Troy's dancing cane, DVD, and instruction booklet set yesterday. The cane is a very well made traditional black and white cane that won't break. The DVD covers all the moves that make up a routine and how to set up the thread, care, etc. I am on my way to putting a routine together.
Thanks Troy! --AL

The only thing bad about my pool cue is it is fragile. I've had to replace the nylon screw at least 2 times because I broke it when practacing by sending it into the coffee table. You also can't do aggresive moves such as McBride demonstrates with it spinning over the back of the hand. Other than that I really like it.

I agree completely about Losander's Cane or his wand. Sheer magic - even my wife was impressed first time out.

And if you want to learn the dancing cane and put together a routine, the best thing to get is either Troy's DVD or Jeff McBride Magic on Stage vol. 3. I just learned the dancing cane , and it is FUN!

You are right. But the best way to learn any new routine is to dive into as much information and resources as you can find. Read books, check out the videos and DVDs and ask lots of questions from those who have done it or are doing it. Take in all this valuable information and then practice and see what works well for you.

I think that the dancing cane is fun and easy to learn but you also need to keep it from getting too boring.

Sorry I can't help you there. But you might try e-mailing denny Haney at Denny and Lee Magic. He knows a lot about dancing canes and sells some of the best. He might be able to help you.

Too many magicians, when performing the dancing cane, make the cane dance all right, but they themselves remain as rigid as a lamppost.
If you want to perform the dancing cane differently from the way most magicians perform it, learn some basic dance steps. Don't just stand there as stiffly as a statue while the cane is dancing about. Rather dance with the cane. Sway your hips, shuffle your feet, move your shoulders, etc. Just as a ventriloquist converses with his dummy, the magician should likewise dance with his dancing cane and not look like a corpse in rigor mortis.
