Dan demonstrated this for me last month, and these pictures simply do not do it justice. It is colourful and Christmasy and really sets the mood. The pieces all have nice heft, and the working is just a dream. For me, a Krampus horn (or this piece of it) appears to the spec more logical than a miniature Egyptian hand (though I love my Cleopatra!) and seems more 'authentic' in performance, requiring no awkward explanations of it not being a 'real hand' but rather a representation of the mystic oracle. This is the actual, broken-off bit of Krampus. There's atmosphere for you. And as to the movement, well, you can see on the video that this moves in an eerie manner that really does look like the bloody thing is searching and making up its mind. Superior, creepy animation. And, of course, all the 'dirty work' happens right under their noses in absolutely the most logical, cool manner imaginable (but if you know Cleo, you already know this). Clean, clean, clean. Most highly recommended.

I (unfortunately) don’t own the hand of Cleopatra. But judging on the basis of available video footage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM4ZHbHDLtI), Dan’s take on the prop seems to produce a more deceptive and natural ‘swing’. Well done! Happy days, cheers, Luc

Dan, my God man, this may be one of your darkest creations yet, and it is gloriously disturbing.
I am speaking from a purely visual standpoint here, which is an homage to your skills as a fine artist. The way that you have yet again, embraced the historical joy of the Christmas season with your artful re-imagining of iconic Christmas imagery against the harsh, and dark nightmarish visions of the Krampus legend, is pure hellish delight. The Christmas tree with its opposing bases is challenging enough from an optic and cerebral standpoint, but adding the dark, dank, and slippery looking horn to the comfort of childhood holiday memories, presented me with a deep, emotional icky feeling, that quite literally, gave me goosebumps. I know we are criticized for recommending new props and effects in this awesome part of the Café. But I feel that truly innovative and creative artists, who are changing our practice in a positive way, should be celebrated and recognized.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

You know, people may laugh at me for saying this, but...
...this feels to me like a Really Big Deal... As in, I really kinda feel Dan is making history with this piece. (Well, clearly it wouldn't be his first time!) Look, this is probably the first major updating of the Hand of Cleo, and it isn't even an update--it's a complete reimagining, from toe to crown! Each piece of this has a plausible rationale for existing. That rustic, vintage, old Christmas look, combined with its infernal opposite... wow. The artistry and skill Dan has put into the ornament... that smooth, twisted horn...the haunting box... The themes involved are ones we can relate to deeply (parenting fears and frustrations, spiritual and moral struggles, holidays and community, etc) and since the effect is simple and clean in execution, it puts story at the forefront. I think this could be presented as lighthearted fun, or as a more somber, disturbing, and shocking meditation on... death, morality, what have you. Not to mention, the reason the Hand has been so sought after, is because it is such a wonderful effect! But Dan's take on it just throttles it into overdrive. This just screams Classic to me. For collectors this is a no-brainer, but I actually think this will get a lot of real use, from me included. All day, Das Krompass was tickling the back of my brain, and I kept saying NO. I'm in selling mode now, trying to build back some funds--I figured I probably shouldn't be making this purchase, but then... ...I vividly recalled the sinking, disheartening feeling when I realized I'd missed the original Krampusnacht. Click, that did it! (Aaah... being a devotee of these shadowy arts carries many blessings, but is also a curse!!) I guess I'm gushing over this without any shame, so I'll stop. But I do think Dan is making nice dent in magical history with this BRILLIANT little beauty... am I wrong? I predict this will be a tightly held treasure for people, and will rarely see the secondary market. I certainly hope everyone who wants one gets one!! Seth |

It's getting to the point where you can put together an entire parlour act entirely based on Krampus (and other Xmas) effects. What a delightful way to incorporate bizarre into the winter season. You could begin with a dramatic reading of Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" to get everyone in the mood (maybe even use it later as part of a book test), then start to delve into the darker origins of the holiday, exploring its bloody and terrifying pagan roots. After all, sacrifices are required to guarantee the return of the Sun. Right?

Did I understand the ad copy correctly, you can have the horn stop at different positions? Or do you have to rotate the base to get it to stop at another spot?
It seems a little shaky that the spectator can be allowed to place and spin the horn, I assume through careful management as I assume a low tech method is used (and preferred) in this effect.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.

How dare you Mr. Baines! How dare you release something so brilliant just out of nowhere, no forewarning whatsoever! This is phenomenal, and I second the gentleman above who said this is definitely historical. I hope I was part of the first 50. Have all of the first 50 been purchased?

It not only appeals to bizarrist, but in the states Krampus has caught on with the public imagination as well.
