To be honest, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first got ahold of Steve's new lecture notes. I've watched him perform live(at the Magic Castle) and enjoyed his card work tremendously. However, with the recent glut of magical products that seem to hit the market daily, I've become quite skeptical, especially when it is a treatise on card magic.
WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION is a great example of why it is worth sifting through the glut. The adage "for workers" is used quite often, but it rings particularly true for these notes. While reading these notes you KNOW that Steve is a worker and that the material contained within are workers. High impact, within-the-range of the average card guy workers. While there are plenty of effects and sleights described in the notes, my favorite section has to be Steve's work on what he calls "Proactive Control". Steve has laid out the groundwork that many magicians will use for the rest of their lives. I highly recommend these notes, whether you are an enthusiast or a pro. Thanks for the kind comments, Charlie! I've discovered that the ordering information may be a bit
difficult to find from the main page.... You can find a summary of the notes and ordering information here: http://www.cardguy.net/contents.htm Again, thanks! Steven Youell |

I purchased and received Steve's material and it is very good in my opinion. I am still going through it and will post more about it soon.

HI,
I also bought Steven's lecture notes after his lecture here in Montreal, and all I can say is they are definitely worth every penny. Actually I do not consider them lecture notes, as they have close to 70 pages, comb-bound, high-quality. Definately for the working performers. And full of great material you will use! 2 thumbs up for me! If you have the chance of seeing Mr Youell lecture, and/or attend one of his semi-private workshop, I highly recommend both. Plus he is a gentleman. Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

I'll second (third?) the recommendations above. The time I spent in NYC yesterday at Steven's workshop/lecture was one of the better investments I have made in my magic development. The effects were great, the methods were better, and his thinking on proactive card control was invaluable.
If you have the opportunity, as I did, to attend a workshop in addition to a lecture, do it. All around the table I could see light bulbs going off as Steven described a better method for a common sleight, a new use for a common sleight, or just gave a new-found respect for sleights that are often overlooked or underutilized. All good stuff taught by a good teacher. Kevin |
