Will be interesting to see how well of a match the hand is to the play-doh used...

Of course you would burn through a lot of putty this way. In walk around, for about a year I performed Paul Harris's putty buddy and never had any real trouble with it getting visibly dirty. It was handled by spectators and coins were placed inside, kind of like in Franken-doh. I never did but I probably should have thought of sanitation... You could probably use red Play Doh, salt dough, modeling clay, or red Silly Putty if you want to switch it out more often or even give it away. |

But surely some off the shelf, easily replaceable doh is what is used here, right?
Please tell me it is. If not, why not? |

Having seen the full performance, this is a cool trick. But the little hand colour wasnt a perfect match for the dough.

I am a hobbyist so will defer to you pros but do you really think specs are going to notice or care that the little hand doesn't exactly match the dough? I'm pretty sure no one is really going to think that the hand was actually created from that ball of dough.

The easier you make it for their suspension of disbelief the more they will enjoy this routine. We are trying to create an illusion here after all. If it is too obvious it is a different color then I believe specs will care because it will instantly betray the illusion, and then it becomes insulting to their intelligence that we are asking them to believe something that is obviously not true. Not to mention that it also spoils the fun for them. |

Also, I wouldn't want it to look glossy, when the play-doh is a matt tone... that has to match, and yes, the colour too...$40 is around £35 at the moment, so that's a lot for the prop(s)...

The color won't be a problem, they're seeing a flippin' hand steal their coin. "What the heck is that??" Also, I gotta imagine it comes with necessary coins. Unless I'm missing something? (I *am* a little slow.)

This looks really fun to perform. I pre ordered this . Watching the demo with the Magician also signing the coin tells me how this works and there signed coin gets into the doh. I would think any doh will work as long as the color is right. I could be wrong but can’t wait to perform this.

Many coins will work with the little hand gag internationally, and for US coins he mentions a quick fix in the demo that isn't usually talked about. Or you could use a s**m coin. Quote:

If you use actual Silly Putty and the Little Hand gimmick then you still should pay Roddy for the trick right? Or are you seriously using the whole "My deck is red and he used blue!" argument for originality? |

Here's another compilation of performances from Nick Locapo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfyfNI_wrYQ
And I just spoke with Nick, it comes with an extra something that allows the coin to be stolen. No extra coins are provided, though you could use a coin with a s**m if you wish. |

The hand looks good...
I think you misread my point. Which was I want congruency between the clay and the hand. They have to match well in my opinion.you said otherwise so I used the example of using the original little hand and original silly putty.

Just a note of clarification: above it was stated that I popularized the little hand trick. That's true but I also invented the trick. Michael Ammar marketed it with my permission and in accordance with a signed agreement.
Incidentally, I have a new version, a new method and a new hand design that allows a spectator to be holding the coin when the creepy little hand grabs it. Then the hand vanishes. This is not possible with the original method nor with the method under discussion here. This is more of a gag than a mystery and it always gets a fantastic response. My new version has been getting screams from the spectators. I hope to market this soon. It'll be $20. |

I don't really care about the opinions of people who know nothing of the real history of this effect. Who are these people and why are you taking their position? I can document the date I invented the effect in the 1970s. I think you should follow the Boorstin quote from your post.
This is my trick and always has been. Anyone who says different should prove it. So prove it. I'm waiting. This trick has been ripped off many times by people who do not have the ability to create their own magic, only steal the inventions of others. My record speaks for itself. I have a long and prolific history of magic invention unlike the thieves. |
