I agree about the packaging. Seems to be a trend these days. I frequently say, "what a beautiful magnetic box...wonder how much extra I paid for the packaging"...right before I throw it in the trash.

I was going to add something to a recent post I made about this, directed at IAN, but the other thread was shut down...
IAN, I thought about it some more and "regular" deck I suppose would insinuate not prepared. I asked myself, is an Invisible deck a regular deck? Not really, even though it's regular but prepared. So I apologize if my comment frustrated you and I agree with you. |

It's not difficult to think of a few ways to recreate the effects shown with pretty well known techniques -- so, given that, the price does seem extreme. Is it just me or has the price of these kinds of effects jumped noticeably in the last year or so? |

Yes. Prices have increased dramatically, and I can recreate the same outcome, as far as the spec is concerned with 2 sprays of SF on a single card. But, it doesn’t come in a very snazzy, colourful cardboard box.

I agree I use a gimmick card that will vanish from the deck & then I can have that forced card appear anywhere else I like ! I only have to add this card to my deck instead of carrying a gimmick deck around .

My next release will be a PDF printed in beautiful colors. So you can print it and make a box out of it yourself.
Please check regularly if you are becoming the type of magician Jerry Seinfeld jokes about. (This applies to mentalists as well.)

But if you buy this release you’ll get to learn the secret of shaking a box and not hearing a card rattle about to then later shaking it again to actually hear a card inside. This alone must be worthy of the price.

That sort of packaging isn't all that expensive, and it does look nice. The problem, if you're just getting a few gimmicked cards and the rest of the deck is normal, is posting it. As dealers would have to wrap that in bubble wrap etc. So it becomes a small parcel, instead of letter sized. So it won't fit through your mailbox, and you will have to pay more in postage.
But it does look pretty //Dan |

Still adds to the production costs, and it's uneeded really. Reduce the paper usage and so on...
And it's still factored in on the price of the product...

It does, but sometimes it's putting lipstick on a pig...

Yeah, as someone who works in an actual shop, it's very hard to sell something sold in some tatty ziplock bag with photoopied instructions, as opposed to this. It's fine if you're an online shop as customers won't see the packaging first.
Seems like a good item, but a bit overpriced. //Dan |

Reading some of the comments here, seems like people don't care too much about the hands off qualities of this release ..and are advocating other methods which require the magician to handle the deck a lot more...
Surely the main selling point here is that it's hands off? Is that not important?

There are zero reasons for a gaffed deck for this effect.
I can think of two ways to do this with a gaffed card and a duplicate. You do NOT need another gaffed deck for this.

They should have sold this as a pure Mentalism effect -cut out the card appearing in the box bit and tell the participant you hypnotized them to see the card. Then they could have added another twenty quid to the price.
