Well, unfortunately I guess I picked the wrong “deal” this time.
Never received my Viper Wallet from Magic and Such. No order shipped, no communication, etc. I’ve opened a dispute with PayPal. Too bad because Andrew started out as an exceptional dealer but I guess things went sideways somewhere along the way. But if he is no longer fulfilling orders then he ought to do the right thing and simply close up shop. So for former customers who only had great prior experiences, be aware that the business is no longer a reliable, trustworthy entity and you likely will not receive your order. |

So I tried the viper and I wanted to love it. On paper, it is the ideal peek case (i prefer this terminology as it is not a wallet). It's pretty well made with better leather than most. However, I hate the zipper on the suc. Makes sense for loading but using the suc as a peek, I do not like having to navigate a zipper. Additionally, the main peek this uses, is super deceptive in operation, but limited as far as what information can be used. Pictures are for the most part okay, but words, nope. I think these kind of peek fall into the, in certain situations it's amazing. THat for me is not the viper's fault, but it is a dealbreaker for me as I like to carry one peek case that I can use in any situation a gig will throw at me. This means it has to work in any lighting condition, give me options that allows me to adapt to different crowds. Am I working with a single person or am I completely surrounded, etc. A peek case, to me, needs to be an effective and consistently useful tool to get me the information in as invisible means as possible. I will use a recent strolling gig as an example from this past weekend. Same routine where I'm utilizing a place and a name. The name is a peek and the place is a force. Same routine but because of my environment, there was one time where I utilized a very bold, overt, quick peek, and less than 5 minutes later was utilizing a very slow, non instant peek where I went back to the wallet, not getting my peek until significantly later. Different situations that I need to be able to adapt to. No matter what peek cases I have tried, there are 3 that I go back to. If I need a full wallet with more than just a peek function, then I'm using a saw. I'f I want a small business card peek case, that I need to be able to peek and load, it's the standard suc(however there are too many considerations for the peeking to strickly confirm just to this one case), Which bring me to the best peek case ever made, the Jaks. It allows you to be bold, reserved, flexible, etc all with the same tool. It also is thin, allows carrying many cards, and looks above board(especially if you put a business card in the "window" section and get a peek by placing the target card behind/in front of it when it's time to do the dirty work. It's served me well and it keeps being the one I go back to as it doesn't have the considerations I have to talk my self out of with every other peek I've tried.
The best one I've found quality wise is from secret tannery. They are lovely. I'm also trying out another one soon but for me, I'm sticking with the Jaks. Definitely doesn't have the "cool factor" but it is trustworthy in any gig scenario which is what I want to be carrying. Good thoughts. Eli |

Thanks, Elimagic, great detail and review...with so many wallets out there, it's been difficult for me to determine what's good for what...

Thanks too, Elimagic. A well considered and appreciated review.
Although I have been tempted by the Viper will be sticking to Blink and the Jaks X. Neil |

Now my next question is, can anyone recommend JOL The Famous Jaks Wallet by Jerry O'Connell & PropDog VS The new Jaks wallet from Tannens...price is quite different. Is it basically the same wallet? I lean toward Tannens because instruction is by Magik Balay, and I really like his teaching style. But then again don't want to pay triple the price for the same wallet. My apologies for averting the Viper thread for a moment.

They have the same method but the main difference is how they look and the tannens one looks like more of an everyday wallet.

I instruction by magick balay left much to be desired though. I will say, the Peek Wallet from secrettanney that is a trifold wallet actually is a wallet and has a jaks like peek (similar but not the same. My recommendation would be if you just want a business card case, go with the jaks from tannens/secret tannery, if you wanta high quality wallet that has a wonderfully simple and effective peek, go with the secret tannery peek wallet. Also, unlike the tannens instructions from magick balay, gerard is a wonderful instructor. Just some thoughts. Looch's blink is also really nice, however, even there, I decided after a while to stick with the jaks. To be clear, though, if the viper appeals to you, you should try it out. It's a great wallet and if you like the principles and have a specific routine in mind that it works for, I don't think you will be disappointed. -Eli |

I was lucky to recently pick up the Viper, from elimagic in fact, at a great deal. My first impressions are that it is unique in it's offerings. I find the cleverness of the Viper to be fascinating. It is well made, good looking, and I am looking forward to trying it out in some formal performances.
Some of the peeks outlined in the instructions are very nice. You can get your peek instantly, or delayed, quickly or with plenty of time. It can be done on the table (which I find to be the most deceptive), or in the hands in a variety of ways. I do think it is quite versatile. That said, it's not perfect for everything – but then again, what is? My everyday wallet is a SAW as it just works well as a wallet, and will likely remain so as I basically just use it as a wallet, but have some options at the ready. I will save the Viper as a "prop" for more formal gigs, and use it accordingly. Time will tell |

Quick comparison:
JOL: Thinner, which some may like. Has lasted me a long time, although I had to re-glue the cloth lining in the peek area (now fine). Less expensive. Doesn't look like any business card case in normal life, having no slots but only blind panels behind which cards are stored out of sight. Kearney (New Jaks): Thicker, nicer leather, with the top panel offset for easier opening of the case. Has slots for business cards, credit cards, whatever, so looks genuine. More expensive, but a premium quality and look. Both function exactly the same way. For two great handlings, see Ray Carlyle and Bob Cassidy. Both approaches are natural, motivated, and fly right by. Cheers, Jerry |

I don’t own either but I think the peek note and the peek/new Jaks use completely different methods.

Peek note is similar to the SAW (imo) p@@@ wise

The above two comments are correct. I’d say it’s more deceptive than the stealth peek. Just my opinion though. The same handling for jaks will not work though.

Nathan Alexander: The handlings I mentioned won't work with the Peek Note Wallet, sorry to say.
