Never hear of any for pitching using bills but I think Seth used to pitch a paddle trick using coins.. not sure how well it did?
I also remember reading on some older posts here of John O the great using a million dollar bill and the linking paper clips.. |

I often use the coin slide as a kicker cuz small kids can easily do it and think they are doing real magic. The parents are instantly sold when they see their kids do it... kinda like when Don Driver And David Walker hand out the Svengali deck so the marks can riffle them to show them all the same then all different...
The parents want the Svengali deck and the kiddos want the coin trick.. I can almost immediately see the parents pulling out their wallet as soon as they see their kids do it and you tell 'em you'll throw it in for free with the deck.. A great kicker! |

I know that a lot of the Vegas magic stores pitch "pen thru bill' / 'Pen- netration" as a staple to tourists. I've bought a job lot and am trying them at a local Xmas market, I'll let you know how they go.

Quick update, I'm finding the pen-thru-bills are going reasonably well as an upsell whenever people pay for the Svens with cash and you're doing a one-on-one dem or a very small number of people (say two different families).
Basically, they give you the cash for the Svens, and you say "you've been a great audience, let me show you a bonus extra trick, and then do a VERY quick (like 15 seconds) dem of pen-thru-bill with the bill they gave you. You then pull a sealed one out and casually say, 'the secret's a trick pen, comes in here with the instructions, it's really easy, you'll be fooling your friends within minutes, magic shops charge 15-20 for this, I'll throw one in for an extra 10 if you like' If they've given you a 20, this normally works as it's just a case of letting you keep the 20 and then you give them both tricks. If they've given you a 10 it works less often as they physically have to hand you another bill which is a psychological barrier but its still worth a try. Don't do it if you have a large crowd and have made multiple sales, don't keep people waiting to pay you! Also, it rarely works as an upsell with card payments as you have to use one of your own bills to dem and people suspect a trick note. Still worth trying if it's a slow day though. PM me for the name of a US based supplier who will sell you pen-thru-bills for $2.70 per unit, which means you can make an extra $7.30 profit if you bolt it onto a Sven sale, really helps on slow days. |

I knew a pen pitchman by the name of Joe Kane, I believe.
He was a monster in the 1960s. What I do remember is his amazing Blow-off Pitch. After he got his $10 ($75 today) for the self locking pen and pencil set, plus a bonus telephone pen that magnifies, measured, opened letters, etc and clipped to the side of your phone... he did a pitch that brought tears to their eyes and another $1 for an ink refill! ($8 today!) BTW, the bonus telephone pen had a dialer on one end to save a housewife’s nails, and it was made of a glow-in-the-dark plastic! Don Driver always laughed that he couldn’t figure out why anyone would need to dial a phone in the dark! 😂 Peace Docc |

I used the 'Self Folding Bill' on my market stall when I lived in Spain ( I used and sold it with a scanned 20€ note, which I pre-folded and prepared at home).
A facsimilie of any currency can be used. Even the market manager bought one. Everyone loves money. Make sure to print the word SPECIMEN on the bill/note. I had a simple instruction sheet in Spanish for the locals and a few in other language for tourists...easy enough to produce with a free translator on your home computer. I found a quick demo was best, turning the bill over and over on the flat palm, holding it up etc., to get attention...then the self-fold sequence as I move my right hand in a slow arc from left to right (as if to let everyone see clealy, but really to hide the secret move). The usual tips apply as for the mouse.,ie., wear a shirt with a busy design....watch out for direct sunlight etc. A really good seller. |
