After I perform a 'coins-across' routine, I am left with a [ left classic palmed. Usually the spectator is so baffled that the four coins have 'travelled' into their hand and the presume my hand is empty, but even so, I find it uncomfortable to keep that coin there while they take in the trick. I like to try and have a 'get-away' pocket, which is a jacket/top with an easily accessible pocket so that I can just pass my hand across it and drop the coin in.

Two thoughts immediately come to mind King.
1. I'm a bartender, so my apron pockets are my number one go to spot. I bought an apron that has the appropriate form and design features to aid in quick ditches. Since most do not wear an apron, or stand behind a bar... 2. When I do gigs outside the bar, I always wear large, 50's style shirts, like this one, with a loose front pocket. Best, Mike |

A shim in the ] and a magnet glued inside your clothes somewhere can manage the problem and reset and setup very nicely.

Maybe Mickey Silver will comment on this or correct me on this if he disagrees. I think it's his belief as well as mine that if the coin is hidden properly in the hand and your mannerisms convey that notion, then that is enough. You can ditch the coin at some other time. You know you have an extra coin and feel very guilty about it. Don't think that way because it will "tell" on your face. The spectator doesn't know there are any extra coins or gaffs. You don't have to show your hand empty to prove something because you are not being accused. The hand held in a natural posture (Ramsay, fingertip rest, classic palm etc.)is a subliminal message to the spectator that everything is normal.
If you must ditch the coin fast why not do it under cover of a natural action. For example if the spectator winds up with the coins in his hand or on the table say, "I'm sure you'd like these as a souvenir but then I wouldn't have any coins to perform with so keep this instead" (reaching in the pocket, ditching the coin and take out a business card or token for them to keep). |

I run to keep in shape
Seriously, I understand what KoD is talking about. I have that odd moment, where one hand is dirty, the effect is done, I succeeded with it, but I'm not happy or comfortable with the palmed coin being there, or it has no reason to be there, i.e., I'm done with it. Usually this happens when I've barely succeeded in my routine, and the 5th second after the effect is done rolls around, and they start scanning my hands and body, looking for a reason why that coin just did whatever it did. It's nice to finish clean, or to be clean a second or two after finishing. It also takes away the ability of a spectator to say, "let me see your hands". While we can show the hands "empty", it's nice if they really are Best, Mike |

Just use the dirty hand to take back a couple of the coins nesting one of them in the process. I know this is pretty basic but it helps.

Forget about the palmed coin, it does not exist.
If it really bothers you, reach into your pocket for your coin purse - ditch the shell then... Say you did a trick with four coins and a shell... Do another trick with only 3 coins. Simply take one of the visible coins, and say, I don't need this one anymore - and put it in your pocket ditching the shell with it, or keep the coin, and ditch the shell as you prentend to put it away. Or... Take the coins back at the end, and simply reshell the coin, the coins can then be seen in proper number. There is plenty of things that can be done very openly like this that will pass all scrutiny. |
