I have seen several magicians produce what appears to be one silk and then
pull a second silk from the silk - it appears as if the silks held together by a substance ... (?) And I'm interested in putting this into a new routine that I'm working on. Any suggestions? Thanks, Martini |

Are they using a light glue or starch to do this?

No it is called static electricity, from ironing the silk. This was popular in the 1970's. It was even sold by some as a stand alone trick. And yes, you will have to iron the silks for each show.
Another method is given in Geoffrey Buckingham's DVD, now downloadable, and in his book. If you don't have his DVDs, I suggest you get them, you will learn a lot about manipulation magic. General Grant is gone, but I believe it was in his lecture notes as well. |

The snap silk production is nothing like what Aaron is looking for.
What he is referring to is usually referred to as Splitting A Silk. I don't have the instructions any longer, but usually the silk is produced, a knot tied, and each end is taken by each hand. The knot dissolves by pulling each end, and the magician now has a silk in each hand. Guaranteed Magic use to sell it, but the owner and store has long been gone. |

The effect is often called "The Diminishing Silks Production."
Johnny Hart performs it at the 2:34 spot of this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tnlopTpbF8&t=221s Fantasio does the production at the 1:18 spot in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wl5VQ6hYDo I believe Eric Lewis is credited with creating the "Diminishing Silks Production." Duane Laflin sells a DVD that teachers it; https://davidandteesha.com/product/how-t......ilk-dvd/ ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Okay, I found the effect by the late Jerry Mentzer still available in two versions, 18 or 24 inch silks. Sold with silks and color choice.
https://magicmethods.com/p/silk-magic/do......ch-silks Or, you can purchase it explained in SILK POTPOURRI BY JERRY MENTZER book, along with many other great effect, for $15.00 plus postage. |

The publication Capers with Color describes the Diminishing Silk Production from Eric C. Lewis. It was originally printed in 1943 by my dad, Harold R. Rice. It might be of interest to persons on this thread. The booklet is at following link:
http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Rice's%20C......lors.htm The required silks are also available from Silk King Studios website http://www.silkkingmagic.com Search for item 541. |

Thanks for the links! Just checked out the videos.
Bill, thanks for the Jerry Mentzer link - great effect! This would work perfectly for what I want to do with the silks. Martini PS Apologize for the delay - busy doing shows. |
