Has this been released before?
https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/12772 In a world where some of the strongest effects in mentalism are being done with high-end electronics, we need a hero to give us jaw-dropping reactions using only a pen and paper. David Regal is that hero. This spur of the moment mental effect allows you to produce a double prediction where you end totally clean. The performer writes down a prediction and places it face down in the open before the effect even begins. Next the spectator draws whatever symbols they want on five other slips of paper then mix them up. The spectators then eliminate those down to just one. When the prediction is revealed it is not only of the symbol they picked but also the one they almost picked. It’s an impossible double prediction that was written before the trick started. Not This, This is a very clever routine that anyone can do. This truly impromptu routine is taught in-depth by David Regal. If you are looking for a direct prediction routine check out Not This, This. |

"Not This" is taught in Constant Fooling and his dvd set Premise, Power, and Participation vol. 3. However it only included the one prediction not the near miss ending the new download offers. So it looks like he has improved on it.

Yes I just found it in Constant Fooling. Same trick. A good one though and f you don’t have the book.

Technically, it's in Constant Fooling 2, for those looking for it... I tend to hate tricks using this method, but this one's not bad as quick impromptu effects go.

I do fancy the look of this, as I'd like to make this principle a bit more 'workable' in the real world. Good heads up about constantly fooling 2 ... love this guy's work.

I like David regal but I look at these type of effects as a stretch. AN idea looking for a trick.
So many things to do to get to the end. Sometimes the original equivoke is good enough. Just learn how to do it correctly. |

Is this just equivoque or is there more to it?

I learned it from his book Constant Fooling 2, page 65. It's a good equivoque. I've done it using the Pateo method with the spectator making the last decision. It goes over well.

I knew this was in one of his books...too lazy to get off my butt and search, but definitely remember the routine! Thanks for the Constant Fooling 2 reference.
Routines like this need several performances in front of real people to get the desired outcomes without audiences coming to the conclusion that the choices are being determined by the "magician's choice" and not the spectators. Once the equivoque is mastered, little gems like this can be nice interludes between your openers and closers. |

Not a breakthrough by any means, but potentially useful if you want something quick and useful that won't appear quite as obvious as many such effects. The ending actually is useful in making the overall effect harder to backtrack, and you can add a few... things to it to make it even more difficult to backtrack as well. |
