He will really be missed. He was very generous in sharing his wisdom from his decades of performing.

So much energy and excitement in his posts here, hard to believe he's now gone.
He shared his knowledge so unselfishly, and was a blessing to the membership here. Of course, this is to say nothing of his long career. RIP, Mr. Oslund.

May we find comfort in knowing that he is now with other friends that have passed before him, those he spoke highly of and shared their wisdom with us.
My prayers and condolences are with his family and close friends. |

Wow..so very saddened to hear this news. I only knew him through the Café, but always saw him as my magical Grandfather...always telling stories and always with great insight. He will be missed.

Sad to hear this. His book, Road Scholar was a unique document of a magician who made his living traveling the "knowledge circuit" hundreds of miles a day in small town America. And his DVD, which showed him working the gyms and libraries of said schools are a master class in working with school children.

I bought "Road Scholar" at Denny Haney's recommendation, and the next time I saw Denny told him Dick's book belonged up there with Tarbell, and he smiled his knowing smile and agreed. Soon after, I corresponded with Dick for awhile and he was an absolute pleasure to know, always encouraging and free with his knowledge. He was someone who had really "been there and done that", and we are better for him having been among us and also diminished by his loss,
Thank you Dick for being a friend and mentor, and you'll be missed. Charley |

I just found out about Dick's passing. It hit me like a ton of bricks. He truly was a friend to all the newbies on here struggling to learn. He would watch what you posted and when he knew you were serious about study, there was no end to his help. I will miss you buddy.

I didn't know Dick Oslund other than through interaction with him here on the Café where he was an active and regular contributor. He obviously had a huge amount of real world experience from performing magic and touring with his show. His contributions here were full of enthusiasm not just for magic but for the sharing of his entire wealth of experience with others, Noticeable too was that despite being 'of a certain age' he always seemed full of the joy of life.
We exchanged a few PMs and he was incredibly generous with both his time and his compliments. He was also very generous with the material that had severed him so well throughout his career. It was a pleasure to know him, even as little I did, and I am sure I missed out on not knowing him better. So long old friend.
