Sadly, according to Dick Oslund's nephew and other relatives, Dick passed away today (via Facebook). Dick was a mentor to so many, both formally and informally.

DIck used to come and see us every year at the fair we did in Centerville IL along with Jerry Conklin. He was a wealth of knowledge and just a good guy that would share with any magician. He will be missed in the magic world.

So sad to hear this. Dick was a great guy who was a fellow road warrior and top pro in the school and family market for decades. He would often share his wealth of knowledge and experience to almost anyone serious in their intent just for the asking. I know he's regularly and often direct people to me for their business advice with the strongest recommendation which I always appreciated. I know he'd been battling health issues lately, but this is still such sad news. The community has lost one of the greats!

I did not know Dick but I messaged him once for some advice - he had the grace to reply, for which I was (and remain) very grateful.

I enjoyed his book, Road Scholar, so much that I re-read it about four times. I can't say that about many magic publications.
Over the years I met Dick numerous times and always enjoyed our great conversations. He truly was a walking magic enclyopedia. Gerry |

RIP Dick. Thanks for reaching out to me online and so generously sharing your knowledge. I will treasure your book and your advice. He even kindly sent me some zinc stearate so that my wooden drawer box would operate more smoothly! A class act.

I met Dick in the mid eighties when I worked in a brick and mortar. I was demonstrating a coin trick which used a French drop. After the customer left, Dick asked me to show him my French drop, he then took the coin and said, 'Nobody holds a coin like this, but they do hold them like this,' as he held the coin and did the vanish. He worked a few moments with me and I have used his handling since.
