I know there's many of you who are likely fans of Paul Brook's work, so I thought I'd inform you about a brand-new release of his titled "Inflated Ego".
Paul has started a private forum over on his site for Mentalists with paid membership levels called the "Insider Program". This gives you access to the forum, monthly cash vouchers you can use in his shop, a permanent discount on top, the downloadable "Musings" periodical he publishes regularly, and access to EXCLUSIVE items that are published and made available for sale to members only. You can even get a custom private email account (not PM box) too! "Inflated Ego" is the first of these exclusive new releases he has made available. I've had the pleasure of reading this and it's a lovely piece. Simple and straightforward, yet effective. Nice and colourful too. This doesn't have to be performed on stage either; you can use this in private house party situations or small venue shows etc as well. I like that it's easily put together and requires very little set-up time and fits in your pocket yet can be played on a large stage if desired. The best part is the ending; it's very clever and charming and whilst reading through the manuscript I didn't see it coming at all. It's also fun and entertaining and makes a perfect opening piece - though it doesn't have to used as such. Practical, fun, colourful, easy-to-do, packs small-plays big, zero gimmicks, and a solid 10-15 minutes - what's not to like? I REALLY enjoyed this piece and I suspect that you will too. Thanks for letting people know about this Sudo, it is genuinely on of my favourite effects to perform on stage, the atmosphere it creates is palpable(that's palpable not poppable!)
Some reviews have started to come in and I have added them to the 'Inflated Ego' page here: https://www.heknows.co.uk/shop/inflated-ego-preview/ The best thing about this effect for a working mentalist is that the stage piece can fit into your pocket. Yet still plays large on stage and adds colour and genuine tension. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do Cheers, Paul

So you have to be a member to buy this? Or is the member thing just for the preview price?
Hopefully it will be on the open marked. If not I have to pass. |

Just to clear this up.
The actual product is only available to 'Insider' members, but when you join you get a number of discounts that will mean you only pay £6.99 instead of £29.99 for 'Inflated Ego'. Plus, you get free copies of 'Musings' my monthly mentalism subscription magazine worth £3.95 per issue, along with access to past issues. You also get access to a private forum full of professional mentalists and serious hobbyists (away from pushy sales, cliques, trolls and sock-puppets) where good honest discussions takes place in a safe space. Basically, you get the cost of admission back plus so much more value that you can't put a price on. Why not take a look at the membership options you at this page, which also has some reviews from members so you can read their thoughts: http://www.heknows.co.uk/insider-membership-plans/ There are imminent plans to include additional free resources to the membership packages that will make being an 'Insider' even more beneficial. If you are willing to pay the full price for 'Inflated Ego', then it really isn't much difference at all to become a member as you won't be spending much more at all. Hope that helps to clear a few things up? Cheers, Paul

This is a great idea from Paul. It has everything you expect from a professional routine, it’s visual, has loads of great audience participation and above all packs a punch. The climax is strong, but Paul has also created a lovely kicker that sort of sneaks up on the audience without them being aware. It’s really good routining and sold thinking. It’s also a great example of packs small and plays huge! Just a few balloons and a few pieces of paper and yet it will fill the stage of even the largest venue, this is my type of mentalism. Solidly recommended.

Plus it packs really flat!!!

Hi all,
hopefully everyone's doing well. In the interest of full disclosure, Paul sent me Inflated Ego (as in, I did not pay for it) before I was even aware of its existence. If he hadn't, I'd have happily bought it (as I have done with lots of his material before), and would not have regretted doing so. Going into Inflated Ego, I wasn't quite sure where it was going to be going. Coming out of it, I'm very impressed yet again at Paul's thinking. The man has a knack for playful routines with a clear premise, easy to follow process for the audience and strong, unexpected climaxes. Reading through his latest manuscript, I actually caught myself being surprised at the finale Paul has crafted to this routine. It should play very strongly. If you've read Paul's Nix4: the finale of this routine has a similar feeling of unexpected impact to me (although the climaxes are very different). I certainly recommend this manuscript. Paul, as always, provides us with a large amount of subtleties and thoughts on handling - thanks to Pauls superb teaching voice, you'll feel confident that you can perform this routine with no trouble after reading the ebook attentively. Plus, as has been said before, this does pack very small...and will play very big. Will be trying this out within the month. Thanks, Paul! All the best, T.

I just purchased this and I’m a big fan. I love Paul’s thinking. He is all about a simple method paired with a fantastic presentation. This is no different. So easy to do, but so much fun and the reveal is a kicker they won’t see coming. I will absolutely be using this without a doubt.

I've been a fan of PBs stuff for a while, and this is a pretty classic PB piece - what I like about it is the fact that *even just reading it*, until the punch I had no idea where the presentation was going - it jackknifes real sharp with the final reveal. I attended a lecture by Joshua Jay at MagicLive ages back and he was talking about some research that he had been involved with that essentially revealed that the thing laypeople like most about magic is surprise (which, aptly, surprised me). Not the mystery, not the story: the surprise - they like the other stuff too but surprise was consistently the favourite. Mentalism is often a bit lacking in the surprise department, but Inflated Ego absolutely delivers - the audience will absolutely not see the unpack in the reveal coming ahead of time and that kind of punch hits HARD. The method is pretty minimal, old school and structurally nicely disguised, but it's not something you buy for the method (IMO, although it's a good method). If you are a performer, I think you'll get a real kick out of performing this piece for your audiences.

I'd be pretty much echoing what everyone else has said already, but for someone who doesn't really do stage work, after reading it I immediately wanted to start. It's a really solid routine that I think a lot of people would have fun performing, and I love the surprise ending - I genuinely didn't see it coming (although now you know there is one...). I've been trying to think of a negative to give a balanced review, but in honesty, I can't think of one. Paul goes into a surprising amount of detail to help even a beginner get the most out of the effect, and even alternative presentations.
If you are thinking of getting it then I'd also recommend checking out Pauls "Insider" membership club, namely as it's pretty much free for the first month if you're buying the effect anyway |

When you have a room full of drunk employees at the years annual dinner and they decide to put you on late in the billing you know it is going a tough job reading minds. The people are either too tired and/or are too inebriated. This routine becomes a caffeine hit for the sleep and a fun focus for those with a drink or twelve inside of them. Would love to see where you take this and the modifications you have after working it

Got this. Love this. It hits a whole lot of great points. Firstly, it is highly visual and colourful (unusual for a mentalism routine, yes, but it's often required, and I had nothing like this in my armoury). Secondly, it is GREAT jazz mentalism, where you can enjoy twisting and turning to get exactly the response you want. Thirdly, the premise is highly entertaining, and last - but not least - Everything required for a full fifteen minutes of entertainment and astonishment could be contained in something not much bigger than a matchbox... Okay, except for the pen.
Moreover, it is based on solid, classic methods - methods that are classic because they work. So, if you are looking for something that is entertaining, fun, mystifying, has a real kicker and can be carried in your pocket, this is it. (And, no, I'm not being paid to write this!) |

Have to echo what everyone else says. This is one of those effects that doesn’t include new fangled clever methods but it fills the stage, gets the whole audience involved and then packs a killer punch all without requiring a ton of effort from the performer. This is exactly what you want when doing paid shows, solid practical and workable material that builds up to a great finish.
