I have a lot of vintage effects and have found many folks have not seen any of them before. I was asked to do a parlor show for about 30 people, now these folks are from hard working backgrounds, welders, oil field workers lumber jacks etc. I decided rather than just perform the effect I would give a little history and background of each weaving a story that played into the piece. They were mesmerized and so surprised to see an old guy like me (83 yrs) do the things I did for them, the historical parts really got to them when they saw the effect performed they told me later it was like back in their childhood again. So I know I will never perform on big stage again but I will keep my hand in and do small intimate routines and use the history of the effects and performers that used them, something different from something old.
I don't understand all I know about this

Awesome. That's an interesting premise. Well done.

That is exactly what David Bamberg (Fu Manchu) did after he stopped performing big illusions: built a lecture style format emulating John Mulholland's show (with different effects) where he told tales of the history of magic and curious things about the particular tricks. It even works today: witness the Late Ricky Jay's one man shows!

Take it from 78 year old me -- you have hit a sweet spot in the magic life,. When you, your characyer and show come together as dramatic truth and education - you have won!
