Blankrupt - Josh Janousky
$25.00 https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=61759 The Hype: You borrow a spectator's credit card -- any color or style will work -- and with a wave of your hand, you cause the markings to disappear completely. You are left with a clear credit card that can be immediately inspected by the spectator. Upon command, you change the credit card back to its initial condition and hand it right back. Blankrupt is a unique "omni" style prop that allows you to turn a borrowed credit card clean. Easy, medium, and difficult methods are taught by creator Josh Janousky, and you are supplied with two durable, clear credit cards that will last a lifetime of performances. Although there are many effects that allow you to make an object clear, a vast majority are objects that you, the performer, must supply: your pen, your cards, your coins. Blankrupt is unique because the object you make clear is a borrowed, precious object: a spectator's credit card. If you're looking for an outstanding, non-card quickie that is visual and impactful, look no further than Blankrupt. Available in two styles: Thin Strip (8.5mm - USA and Canada cards) and Thick Strip (13.5mm Rest of world). Please contact your sales rep if you want to check which size is best for you. NOTE: Blankrupt has been developed with permission from Alan Rorrison, who has previously worked on this concept. My Take: A while back I had the privilege of reviewing a previous effect from Josh, Whiplash. Very clever stuff and it must be selling because his site says it is out of stock. I found his way of thinking very clever. A number of other well known people must feel the same way as they have contributed handlings of the gimmick on the video. Instruction is via a 19 minute video which is downloadable. The video says you receive one omni credit card gimmick. My package contained two gimmicks but I believe one is what you should receive. The first effect is the Main Handling and I must admit I was a little dismayed. You require a card to wallet. This was not mentioned in the ad. However, not to worry. You are given quite a few other routines that do not require the wallet. If you own one, it is just icing on the cake. There really is not a move in the trick and it looks great. You turn the borrowed credit card clear then remove the actual credit card from the wallet. The gimmicks look like they should last quite a while. I am impressed with the lineup of talent that have contributed their handlings to the effect. Garrett Thomas offers a routine that does require a sleight but will change the way you feel about silly putty forever. Next up in Kostya Kimlat, one of my favorites and probably the only magician that got Penn to swear on his show so I looked forward to this one. Kostya offers a handling that is more based on subtlety and is very easy to do. Patrick Kun has a beautiful handling that must be done sitting down as lapping is involved. the way it is routined makes the lapping almost automatic. I think this is my favorite of the handlings on the video as it looks so clean! The next handling is Josh's using his smart phone. The credit card is turned clear and a photo of it on the smart phone is actually pulled off the phone restoring the card. Bro Gilbert's handling is one I can see a lot of people doing. You do have to make a gimmick for it but that should take less than a minute and it looks great. The card actually turns clear in the spectator's hand. And, if you are so inclined, Josh teaches a couple of routines using sleight of hand. Both look very nice. The magnetic strip on some credit cards is a color other than black. You can take a borrowed credit card and change the magnetic strip to black. You are taught how to make the magnetic strip penetrate the card and move to the other side. So, for the purchase price you get a durable gimmick and a 19 minute video that teaches quite a few handlings in a short time. This is a good purchase for something to carry in your wallet. Everyone has a credit card and magic is so much stronger if you use the spectator's card. Conclusion is that Josh has once again proven himself to a be a clever and creative young magician. Plus he comes across as very affable which, considering the number of others that have contributed to this project, must really be how he is. We all miss Daryl but I think he would have no problem calling this one a "fooler dooler". |

Thank you so much for the review! We actually decided to include two cards instead of one in the end, to allow people to have back up just in case. I'm glad you were happy with Blankrupt!
