Over the years I have learned to slow it down. It's not easy because my mind is always racing, and when I see clients in the exam room I rush to get through a 15 minute appointment. But once I manage to slow down, the movements are less rushed and the magic looks better. Here is something I have learned over the years, that can help. If you perform smooth and slow, your magic will always flow. If you hesitate when moving fast, the illusion of magic just won't last.

I know the easy answer here is practice and more practice, but it's a little more than that. You have to live with a coin(s) in your hand at all times. It has to become part of your hand in such a way that it kind of hides itself no matter what palm, transfer, concealment, etc. Try doing your everyday activities with a coin in place. Brush your teeth, make coffee, put on your pants, all with a coin withheld. Practice actually transferring it into the other hand so you know how that would look to your specific movements and then once understood, try holding it back in the same manner. The actual sleights become lighter as your muscles get accustomed to the coin being there. A flow was mentioned, but you can't flow until your hand is used to holding, transferring, or whatever it is you are doing. Currently, I'm working through some of Joe Cole's material (highly recommended by the way) and have forgotten this advice I'm giving you now. Don't put the coin(s) down and you will be a master sooner than you realize.

Thanks for this post, Justin. I have offered similar advice a dozen times in as many years and never get much reaction.

I would add to do this in public also - at the grocery, driving your car, etc. The goal is to have a coin concealed in hand all day with no one realizing it.

The difficult part is getting the coin from hand to hand undetected and naturally, and there is little published on such techniques.
Just to be able to toss a coin a foot to the other hand without looking is a step in the right direction.

PM me if you desire some alternative ideas in this regard.

Most welcome and yes, I don't think it's going to get much reaction because it's the long way. Nothing is instant. Smile

Getting away from magic helps me. I put the coins down for about 6 months. Watching others perform things besides magic as well as developing better as a musician helps as well.
Both demand good timing, not just playing notes.

Now free styling magic with coins is again as fun as free styling the blues on my harmonica.
