Some more details perhaps? What is the effect?

That effect uses only three cards, and features three seemingly impossible revelations as the red Ace proves impossible for the spectator to locate. The third and final revelation is the most surprising of all, as the red Ace magically switches places with another card. There's a performance video of it here: If that's the one you mean, then be aware that "Million Dollar Monte" is just another name for the effect more commonly known as "Ultimate 3 Card Monte" by Michael Skinner. Skinner's routine and patter is often considered the best, but there are many ways to perform this effect, and the same gaffs are used. Either way, it is a terrific effect that nearly always generates good reactions, which is impressive considering that it only consists of three cards (including some gimmicked ones). |

The Million Dollar card trick is a very well known effect, and a very good one, but it's not the same as Three Card Monte.
I'm afraid I've no idea as to its origins. |

I've just realised that this is the 'self-working' section, however the million dollar card trick is a sleight of hand effect using display counts, it doesn't use gaffed cards and it certainly isn't self working, so really this is the wrong place to be asking about it, unless the O.P. is thinking of something entirely different.

That video is probably responsible for it being called "Million Dollar Card" trick by many people. The routine probably does have a different name originally, although I personally don't know what it is. |

Like the spurious cromulent, many of these words are not even entered in dictionaries, as they seem to only be trotted out as examples of one's extensive vocabulary. Any comments? What did you want to express with cromulent? |

I was just expressing my dismay. Hence the blue sad face.

In some effects the cards or,indeed our craft can take on human like characteristics. Cheekiness, aggression, kindness, petulance. A talented performer can bring about these traits in inanimate objects. Tina Lennart did it with a mop. B.B. King did it with "Lucille"- his guitar. Definitely something to strive for! I remember learning Maxi-Maxi Twist as a teenager. Lots of fun. |
