Yeah this quite clearly different and has serious advantages, especially in the presentation department. The line - “I said I was going to do this with one hand, but I didn’t say which one”, is a magical moment on its own.
People can tell the difference between routines, especially when one of them is as fair as this... it would be remembered differently |

We can do the same effect with a normal deck, a fo..ed. card , an identical additional card and a joker treated with roug..stick. I do it with the card found in the empty (?) Chatelain M-Case instead of in the pocket..

Just because you say "Look my hand is in my pocket" doesn't make it any more amazing than reaching into your pocket to retrieve the peeked card a few seconds later. But my point still stands. Whatever floats your boat. If you think purchasing a $40 gaffed deck to achieve this, fantastic. BTW I never said audiences "don't care" I said they don't remember details such as: your hand being in your pocket the whole time or reaching in, as I said , a few seconds later. Either way if my audience has a fun and magical experience,, that's all that matters. Take care.

If you point out at the beginning that your right hand will remain in your pocket the entirety of the trick, to “exclude sleight of hand as an explanation”, they will remember that detail. That’s the entire premise of this routine. That’s not to say a standard card to pocket won’t get the same reaction. And that’s not to say that the underlying question they have isn’t the same, in both cases it’s “how did the card get in the pocket?”. And look, I also get that it’s almost pointless to argue that a spectator would remember these two differently because no laymen will likely see both. But In a hypothetical world where a spectator did see both, I would say they remember them differently. Mainly due to the fact that this trick specifically references the method for the standard card to pocket, and that the hand remains in the pocket to exclude that possibility.... I have no opinion on whether this is better (I’m not buying the trick if that clarified anything). This has advantages as I said in a previous post, but the standard card to pocket has its own.... like being infinitely cheaper, and the card can be signed and given as a souvenir. |

If you have a tribute to Verone by Henry Evans you can use that special card supplied & never have to worry about the rest of the deck . There card will be gone ! & they can handle the deck anyway they want can even drop it on the floor lol! The card is gone & now in your pocket . The only difference is instead of the spectator getting a peek you just riffle the cards upward & then they say stop . You just have to time it right this is this is the way I perform it with NO Worries !

I like Max Maven, but this routine doesn't suit me. There are several of his routines I enjoy but are not a good fit for my style.

An important difference IMO is the riffle force vs the spec peek. The fantastic research by Andy the J shows that the riffle force is far, far more suspicious to lay people. So I would argue Pock Nightm has an advantage in that respect.

The thing is with the riffle force and using get Sharkey the vanish is very strong and examinable imo Gaz 🙂 ps you can still do the wonderful wording that Max uses too

IIRC Get Sharky lets the spec peek. No riffle force.

The reality is there are countless variants all with their advantages and disadvantages. I know from experience that Peter Nardi’s card to pocket using the extractor absolutely kills and of course the signed card going into the middle of the deck in the box pretty much rules out sleight of hand. There is no universal this version is the best, it all comes down to individual skill/ability and the routining and blocking and the rest of the set as well as the presentational style of the performer.

Yes get Sharkey does but I meant making your own get Sharkey with one force card so I then control the riffle . The deck then is fully examinable and the spectator again truly stops anywhere Gaz 🙂

If you prefer Get Sharky, then of course no force is necessary... and as you have only 6 force cards, a minimal fishing would be enough, without saying aloud the thought of card if you wish so, to get the appropriate card from your pocket... Jan

You don't need any fishing as every card that can be stopped on is the force yet the deck is completely perfect the natural way it gets laid in the hand Gaz 🙂

With get sharky you don’t want the spec counting the cards.

Why if they are laid In their hands straight after the pull down or riffle peek their natural turnover is like a book and the iffy end is towards them and they never ever see inadvertently the vanished card ? Gaz 🙂
