I have entered Searchlight 2020 with my original song, "Hey Girl", which I wrote for my pet cow, Michael. I raised Michael after she lost her mother. The song is lyrically simple but, I think, strong and authentic.

Here’s a little inside information about Michael’s ear tag(s): I first put in a blue #45 in her left ear, but it didn’t clip properly, so I replaced it with a #44. Later, I put a #100 in her right ear.

This can be a vulnerable place to be, and it's been encouraging and heartwarming to receive support for this song, especially because the subject matters to me on a very personal level. Thank you for letting me share Michael with you and for joining me in celebrating her.

Inside scoop for the Café:

I took this photo when I first got a digital camera, and thus taking such a portrait was on a steep learning curve for me. There may be video of me somewhere asking Michael to smile for the camera, after which I say, "Michael's tired of the camera, hey, Michael?" No joke. I think I took well over 100 photos that day, and ended up with maybe 4 or 5 that have both our faces in the frame. Gracious girl, indeed.
