Hi all
This is an old thread but I feel worth reawakening. I too love this DVD. I do jiggernaught which I think is brilliant - takes up no room and literally stuns. My next favorite is billoon. However I have never used it in performance (yet), simply because I always find the 'p' of a banknote very difficult to make smooth. Almost a guaranteed fumble in my experience! Scared me off. If anybody can give me any tips on how to make this an easier maneuver PM me please, I'd really appreciate it. As I read over this thread today however I was delighted to come across jstones idea of signed card to balloon. No problem 'P' a folded card. After avoiding doing card tricks for years I have succumbed recently and put together an ambitious card routine (with my own special twist of course) Card to balloon could be one of the many endings I am coming up with at the moment. BTW - Keith Barry makes wonderful use of this effect. The balloon is present throughout his show and is burst at the very end reveling a sheet of paper with a list of names on it (he claims to have written this list the night before after having a dream. He put them in the balloon for safe keeping!) the list is the names of all the people he had up on stage during the show that evening (the real stars as he says) a very strong prediction and a great way of thanking the audience for their full participation. Once again, it's all about presentation really. All the best Alex
I met this chap at the Olympics. I said to him, "Excuse me but are you a pole vaulter?" he replied "No, I'm German, but how did you know my name was Walter?"

I have been performing "classic farce" for several years now...always a strong reaction, has great built in comedy and a kicker finish that always leaves them scratching their head..even though this video has been around for a while it is still one of my favs...

There are so many problems you run into when you combine it with Merc card fold. I think I've worked them all out, and I performed it a few times again a couple of weeks ago... It worked awesome most of the time... got killer reactions. However, one of the times, the balloon didn't pop; it just slowly deflated. Lesson learned is make sure the balloon is very tightly blown up, and make sure that when you have them pop it, they give it a good hard jab. I actually have a safety pin pinned to my tie. I hold the balloon with two hands (just like in the jenest dvd) and lift them above my head to allow the spectator to unpin the pin. This gives killer misdirection to "adjust" if needed (if you know what I mean). One other thing about having the balloon taut... the sound of the "something rattling around inside" is much better. |

Question for those of you who perform this, I'm just starting to perform it, or a version of it anyway. Do you have any hints for keeping the "balloon-holder" from prematurely noticing something? My handling involves 2 people. One holds the "very-poor balloon animal," and another is the bill provider whose bill gets vanished. In Jenest's dvd, the guy on the street who is otherwise distracted isn't really a common performance scenario.

Sounds good. Do you have a rationale for asking them to hold it like that? I suppose it could be something having to do with precision. If you move it, we might miss and the results would be disastrous, or something like that, but that would telegraph what's going to happen too.

It looks like Luca Volpe had the same idea as me (though mine was posted here before his DVD ). Anyway, I reviewed it - link below:

For anyone interested, I have a write up on the Billoon routine I use for real world audiences which has gotten great responses. My revised version does use a contained application of fire to destroy the bill (it's 100% convincer) but plays extremely well for stage or gatherings in selective settings. (Not restaurants or banquest rooms due to the element of an open flame) For anyone interested, I will be glad to forward my prep work and handling. It's lengthy, but complete.

Hey Ron,
I've got your original and it's great. Unfortunately I do a lot of kids stuff and never got to get this to a completion for my act. If you have another version out, I'd be very happy to receive that as well. all the best, JoJo jojo_magician@westnet.com.au

"Short Hop" alone is worth the price of the DVD and then some. This is one of the best real-world' DVD's that money can buy. Don't pass this one up!

This is a great DVD set. Mark teaches a ton of practical routines. I still carry his ChapTrick around in my close up case.
