I love doing this little control for bringing slugs to the bottom of the deck... A move I had never even contemplated as being super important until more recently.
I read the table of contents of the new forte book and there are items listed as moving cards from top to bottom in one riffle or two riffles. I would wager a bet that this very control which I came up with under my own brain power, will be covered in the book. I'm less sure that my stock transfer from the bottom to top would be covered, but there is still a possibility due to other similar things being covered in the book. Anyway, this is two separate takes of my own "From the top to the bottom and back again" which I'm betting will be similar to what's in the new book. On the second take, after first demonstrating the control, I then do an extended version of the same control. Slightly more deceptive, much more fun to execute. https://youtu.be/UxnrzZqrBJM |

There is nothing new about bringing a stock of cards from the top to the bottom and vice versa. There are different ways of doing it. I myself have demonstrated here one way of doing so, years ago. I came up with it but did not claim it was new because just because one comes with something it does not necessarily mean that one has come up with something new.

Nice work, although I would be very surprised if that is a new move

Good work, but I'd be far more personally introspective prior to boldly stating "this very control which I came up with" or "I'm less sure that my stock transfer from the bottom to top would be covered".

Thanks for the compliments on the work... However, I'm not sure what thread some of you guys were reading. literally nowhere did I state I came up with a "new" move... Not sure where you guys are getting that from.
I did claim I came up with these on my own, which simply means I did not learn them from someone, and I did not steal them from somewhere and try to take credit for it. (This is exactly the same thing you claimed you did Tommy, I would appreciate if you read more carefully and didn't automatically assume I am beneath you.) I didn't come out here saying: "look I invented a move", I came out here saying: "look at this move I do, I bet something identical will be in forte's new book" Mr bones, saying things like "this very control that I came up with" or calling something "my shift" is not bold, it's factual. Note: I did not use the word "invent". I'm not implying complete ownership, I'm not claiming anything is new. how else do you refer to thoughts that come out of your head? They are your thoughts. It's not like I called it the cliff shift as I see many people do who think they've come up with a move. If I referred to the shift from bottom to top by description it would be 40 words long! Thus for simplicity's sake, I'm gonna just say "my" stock transfer until someone has a name for it. I knew there had to be ways of shifting slugs from the bottom to the top and vice versa during riffles. The person mentoring me at the time would simply tell me to "put the cards on the bottom" or "strip them to the top" which made no sense to me as there were many situations I would get into that simply wouldn't allow the addition of cards to the bottom from the position I was left in... Or stripping the cards would require me to have a break... Which means what?.. I'm supposed to pinky count? What I came up with made so much sense that from day one, I assumed that it must have been a move that was known in close circles and never made it to print. This assumption plus the small hints on the forte table of contents made me almost positive that this will appear in the book as there are probably finite ways of moving cards around while riffle shuffling. This video was simply to share something that will likely be included in the forte book. Just something fun to look at. I'm not making any claims, I'm not starting a website or writing a book, so if we could just calm down please, I'm not claiming I'm better than erdnase or forte. |

It is you who ought to read more carefully what I said:
There is nothing new about bringing a stock of cards from the top to the bottom and vice versa. There are different ways of doing it. I myself have demonstrated here one way of doing so, years ago. I came up with it but did not claim it was new because just because one comes with something it does not necessarily mean that one has come up with something new. Those are four simple facts and not one of them mentions you.

Thou protesteth too much Cliff!
Saying "I came up with" implies invention, regardless of how you frame it. Using "my" when referencing a move implies ownership, regardless of how you frame it. But as I noted ... nice work.

Iv'e reinvented the wheel over & over again. Luckily for me, I had a mentor to tell me so. And he was wrong once. Which is why it was published.

The most efficient but not the easiest way of moving cards from the top to the bottom and or vice versa, or even doing both at the same time, is I think with a standard Box/Strip Cut; a Box will automatically reverse the top and bottom cards to some degree and with practice, one can acquire the ability of drawing four in the first strip, which puts them at the bottom and or retaining the last four, which puts them at the top. How many cards are drawn in strips may essentially depend on how tightly one grips the deck but again there are different ways of doing it. Steve Forte has ways I have never heard of and I am quite sure he will give credit where credit is due, as he is, among other things, a great historian on the subject.

I have been around hustlers and card men for years and from time to time they frequently say, "let me show you what I came up with." I personally have "come up with many things on my own" and so have many other card men of any note. That doesn't mean that the person making that statement is implying that he or she is the only one on the planet, in the history of the world, that has come up with that move or twist. It is just an expression and simply means that independently one came up with a move or twist. Most card men of any note do this all the time. In fact, I have personally come up with a number of moves that I guarantee will not be in the Forte book, and they are very good moves. No one knows it all or has a lock on the uniqueness or extent of card manipulation moves. But Cliff, thanks for sharing your video what you have come up with. It certainly should prove to be interesting to many on this BB, although like most card manipulative moves, there are quite a few ways of doing this particular maneuver. |

I think his problem is that he is trying to read between the lines. I myself have always found it most difficult to read between the lines, as there appears to me to be nothing there. I know, perhaps I need a pair of them there infrared contact lenses. Do you have a pair - perhaps you can see where I wrote in invisible ink something about either him or his move.

I have mentioned from time to time a unique and unknown move which I invented and NO ONE has any clue as to how it is done.
It is completely unique and Steve Forte has requested that I teach him this move repeatedly. However, I have declined Forte's requests until he gets more skillful with a deck of cards. I don't want him stumbling and fumbling with the move and inadvertently exposing the modis operandi of the method. When and if his skill level reaches the necessary level for mastery of this move, then we will reevaluate his request. That move is called the Cagliostro Upside-Down Reverse Oblique Springing One Handed Center Deal. The is no move on the planet like it. Unfortunately, it will NOT be in the Forte book as it is too advanced... so... eat your heart out guys. |
