Another vote for the Oso cut. As far as a simple false cut (using a table), John Bannon in a Move Zero DVD, demonstrates the effectiveness of the Jay Ose False Cut several times. There's absolutely no need to rush the move; and therein lies its simplicity. It's not the only false cut I use; but if you're seated at a table, you don't have to think about it (or draw attention to it) that much. Lynn

Although he didn't mention it in his post, the immediately above video by Vinny demonstrates three cuts, the first of which is the Winnipeg False Cut that has been mentioned several times in this thread. Vinny (like most of us) learned it from Frank Garcia, but it actually came from Mel Stover (who lived in Winnipeg, hence the name).

Thanks Vinny for sharing. It's always nice when someone shows the way as to things. I sorta thought that was about the way the Winnipeg False Cut went. I was playing with another Winnipeg false cut (a little fancier) and figured that the way you're doing it here was just about the way that ddy has been referring to it. As I mentioned above, it is a good simple way to do a false cut, it's certainly fooling and easy enough to do as well from your demonstration.
Appreciate you lending the color play-by-play here as to this and other possibilities.

I don't know if one of your limitations is that it is a one cut false cut. If it is not, my favorite false cut of a deck involves having a crimped card on the bottom of the deck (I prefer a breaher crimp). Simply cut the deck and table the deck. When you're ready, cut at the crimp and Bob's your uncle. If you want to get ballsy, most of the time if you use a breather crimp, you can have the spectator cut the tabled deck and they will cut to the crimp most of the time.

Yes, thanx Vinny! The second cut that you showed is also one I use if I'm doing an in-the-hands cut. Who knows where I first learned it...maybe from an earlier post of yours! Lynn

Here is a really simple idea of my own for a false cut to the table.
I think it's very similar to how a layman would do it. Just one extra step that (hopefully) makes it look slightly more thorough, while actually undoing the cut - 1. Place top packet on the table. 2. Place bottom packet (remainder of deck) on the table to the right of first packet. 3. Pick up first packet & place on top of second packet |

Cut half of the right hand packet to the middle of the two packets. Now replace the right packet onto the far left packet, then the middle packet onto the left packet. That's from Blackstone Modern Card Tricks which I got out of the library when I was a child. If starting from the hands, then drop the bottom third to the table on the left, the rest of the deck to the table on the right; then half of the right hand packet cut to the middle. Packets are replaced right onto left, middle onto left. It's very deceptive. BTW, I never find the Ose cut deceptive, but I got fooled by it recently by a seven year old. There's a video here somewhere of Craig Petty's seven year old son doing the Ose cut and he does it more deceptively: he cuts the deck into three packets in a triangle formation, with the last packet being the apex of the triangle pointing towards the spectator. Somehow that scrambles my perception more.

I guess there are lots of very similar cuts. Sometimes the descriptions are a bit ambiguous too.
My interpretation was the deck starts in the left hand (not on the table). The right hand removes a block from the TOP and places it on the table to the left. The right hand then takes all the cards from the left hand. Then releases the BOTTOM block on the right, and places the MIDDLE block in the middle. In this case you would pick them up from left to right - top, middle, bottom. But there are of course many ways to skin a cat - and cut a deck of cards |

HiJay thank you for letting me know the creator of the Winnipeg cuts
and you were right about mentalists never getting too fancy about cutting cards as you mentioned in my first post Magicish thunks for demonstrating some of your beautiful work on false cuts VINNY |

Tom Rose's Umbrella Cut is my go to false cut. Probably the most natural in the market.

Tom's "Umbrella Cut" can be seen here, and is very nice. But "most natural"? I don't think so. Try using a cut like that (it's basically a running swing cut) in a serious card game and see what folks think!
"Natural" means "the way normal people do it"; this only looks natural to magicians.
