I want to start by saying that I am in no way affiliated with Pop Haydn and this review was unsolicited. After seeing a video of this routine someplace else here on the magic Café I found and purchased this download on my own.
What a great routine! I have said it before and I don't mind saying it again now, I am a fan of Pop Haydn's acts and I enjoy watching him perform. With that in mind it only makes sense that I'd want to order his instructional DVD's or Download his instructional videos. Unfortunately in the past with other magicians I have enjoyed watching I have found that when you get the DVD you find out they are much better at performing than they are at teaching or that they are much better at staging a magic show than they are at directing an instructional video. Fortunately not the case here at all! So what is Pop Haydn's Mongolian Pop-Knot Routine? Well firstly I encourage you to watch it.(A quick search on youtube will give you plenty of options to see Pop perform it. Heres just one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2mcvNWaiiI ) Essentially its a very well routined, and very well thought out C&R rope into Prof N. back into a unique C&R rope but that's just the mechanics of it. What Pop Haydn has done is made a routine not of showing the audience a trick with some rope but rather teaching the audience something. It is such a fantastic premise. To me a trick is so much better & more powerful when there is a reason for the magic rather than a trick for the sake of a trick. Hows the quality of the instruction? Well like I said in my intro some times in the past I have watched a video of a performer I like teaching something and I'm disappointed because they just aren't a good teacher. This is absolutely not the case here Pop Haydn goes over every thing step by step at a good pace that's easy to follow with clear concise directions. When I say that Pop goes over every thing I'm not just talking about the moves to do the tricks, this video is teaching his routine so he gives you performance tips and advice as well. The video also goes over Pops advice on what rope & scissors are best to use in his routine. What's the quality of the video like? In short really good. The video starts with a recording of one of Pop's live performances of the routine. Than for the instruction portion of the video its just Pop standing in front of a red curtain backdrop. The lighting and sound are both on point no issues seeing or hearing him at all. The majority of the instruction is a full body shot from the front with some zooming and when needed Pop turns around to give you the back view so you can better see and understand what he's doing. Any issues with the video? Honestly ..... not really! If my feet where held to the fire and I HAD to pick something I would change I'd say maybe for me (being someone who has not done any rope tricks before) perhaps there's one or 2 moments I would have liked another extra close zoom in on the move. Again it was not needed and I don't think the video is lacking in anyway for not having it. Who's this video good for? anyone ... everyone. Honestly there's nothing in here that's to hard that a beginner won't be able to pick up. Some one that has more of an intermediate skill level will get some finer points on handling. Those who's skills are more advanced will likely get something form Pops advice on and attitude towards performance of the tricks. Over all this is a really great video! If you enjoy this routine and you wanna learn it, or if you have never seen it but your looking to add a rope routine to your act. I highly recommend it! Also at just $15 USC for the download its a bargain! I absolutely give it 5 stars out of 5!! When you buy the instant downloadable instructional video you also get an 18 page instructional book download with it !!! The link below is to download it right from Pop Haydn's website. https://www.popsmagic.com/store/p33/Pop_......DEO.html ![]() ![]() ![]() |
