Power of Poker was definitely a highlight of his book ‘Dear Mr. Fantasy’ (2004). Dead easy with no sleight of hand, no equivoque, no extra cards. Performer always gets either a straight flush or a royal flush. Very easy to cover only two possible outs with the prediction.

Absolutely worth $5, but that book has a ton of great stuff. Get that instead if you can find it still.

This trick is credited to David Solomon (and possibly Alex Elmsley) in Bannon’s book. I don’t have the book in front of me. It started with Elmsley’s ‘Power Poker’, Solomon eliminated the need for false deals and called it ‘Revised Mexican Poker’, Bannon eliminated the need for any equivoque and called it ‘Power of Poker’. I think that is the proper history.

It is essentially a one phase 10-card poker deal without a Jonah card. There is already quite a long 2010 thread about this trick in the “The Workers” section already. Check that if you want to read about all the variations by other people. I never bothered, Bannon's version is pretty perfect IMO.

Love Bannon's stuff so I bought this. In my opinion there is an inherent weakness in the method, and sure enough the girl in the demo(unedited version) calls him on it. Maybe you can tweak the presentation a bit to make things seem a bit fairer? If I recall correctly, this was also used for the 2nd phase of Casino Con by Steve Gore.

The part where after the card is chosen for the spec, she assumes the other card is for her, and he has to say no.

I’ve never been called out on what happens to the unchosen card after some of the selections. Treat it casually; give the cards a quick (false) mix beforehand. The great thing about this trick is how much you can stress that they made all the choices, no ambiguity.

Does the video go much beyond what's in DMF? Or is it just a video version of what's in the book?

Complaining that something already exists in a different format is like seeing a movie on Amazon Prime and calling them up to complain that you already have it on VHS.

Dear Mr Fantasy came out in 2005. There is a whole generation of people who have been born, hit their mid teens and gotten into magic since then. They like video instruction. No point in arguing that, if it wasn't what the current marketplace wanted it wouldn't exist.

There's no big conspiracy going on to try to make you buy tricks you already have. If you have the trick already, great - the download isn't for you. It's for the people who don't already have it, at an affordable price, in their preferred format.

Case in point - Blackpool 2020. I was demming a routine of mine that featured in a newly released multi trick, multi creator DVD. The response to the routine in online reviews has been overwhelmingly positive. When demming it live, a lot of people asked to purchase the trick, but here's the kicker....many of them lost interest when they found out it was part of a collection. They wanted to buy the thing they liked, and that thing only.

That's how it is now. Get used to it.
