So I have seen no mention of this anywhere else -- not on Murphy's web site or VI's web site. But VI sent out an email that included this:
"Plus, thanks to Jack's addition of an extra gimmick, you can show all of the coins on both sides at the beginning and at the end." So this led me to believe it was not just a standard C/S/B/set but included an extra gimmick. Perhaps the Cerberus Gaff? Also in the email (but not the web site) it says it includes: A precision made Copper/Silver/Brass Gimmick VI Chinese Coin Mexican Centavo Can anybody clarify what exactly you get? |

Extra gimmick may be nice to show the coins, but why run when you are not being chased? I have the standard Johnson set and have had success for years with it.

This has the extra turtle.

My apologies to Vanishing Inc. I didn't realize that the set also included a shell to cover the gimmick. Somehow, I apparently glossed over this important detail. So, in short you receive the normal C-S-B set PLUS an extra shell, which will allow you to show both sides of the Kennedy half-dollar coin. Now, it makes more sense and justifies the higher price tag...I must be losing my mind from being home all day because of this crazy coronavirus situation.

I wouldn't apologize too quickly, Jared. I received the coin set today and my first impression is that the shell on the C/S/B gaff looks like someone with a bad toupee. It isn't deep enough. Yours may be better.
Jack probably addresses this in the video but you can only give a brief flash of the tail side and you have to make sure the spectators don't get a good look at the edges of the coin when it is heads side up. I did find a shell in my stash that does a better job. I swear the older shells were a tad deeper. Mark Mason's deep dish expanded shell set - Shell Shocked - may be the answer BUT he is out of stock right now and the cost for a Kennedy set is $125. Hopefully my set is just a one off and yours will be excellent. |

Added note:
Jack Carpenter does address this issue of the bulky gaff. I'm still glad I found my own shell for it. I don't think the one supplied would stand anything but the most casual look. |

"The shell on the C/S/B gaff looks like someone with a bad toupee" <<< Yeah, that struck me as soon as I opened the package. I do feel that with any more than a cursory glance from the spectators, this inconsistency has the potential to be spotted unless they're restricted to viewing from above. On the one hand, if you keep things moving it probably won't be seen but the more movement you make increases the likelihood of the spectators hearing them 'talk'. I wouldn't want to perform this in quiet surroundings, the tinny clank is hard to avoid.
On my set, the shell came with some ugly scrapes and indentations on the edge and the (gimmicked) Centavo has a sharpish raised ridge around the edge. The genuine Centavo and Chinese coin are beauties. They're not perfect by any means but on the whole, they're still pretty good value for the money and I shall persevere in trying to get the most out of this routine. I would have preferred to have been able to perform this slowly and confidently but I think I'll have to make some compromises. I do like this routine and especially the fact that you end clean. I even bought a matching 2017 half dollar from eBay (UK) to complete the set. |

Well, it is a coin trick so some attention will be on the coins. Yes you do take the shell off in the beginning . . . then put it right back on again. It isn't until the travel of the third coin that the shell stays off during the middle portion on the routine. Then it's back on for the third part. That shell ain't just a pretty face. It does some heavy lifting. I can't tell if this is an issue. Normally I would have popped down to my local Starbucks where I test drive routines like this. Unfortunately thanks to our current unpleasantness I'm in solitary like many of you. My audience is my mirror and he's old and cranky. Needs a shave too. Others should be receiving it soon. I'm curious what they'll think. Hopefully they have family members that they can use for a test drive. |

Dan, thanks for making me feel a little bit better. I pride myself about being accurate with comments/reviews while taking into consideration all the important details (practicality, performing environment, reset, angles, the overall quality when compared to similar products in the market etc.). But in this case, I just simply glossed over an important detail about the shell being included (my bad). However, I am sorry to learn that the shell looks like a "bad toupee" as you described (btw- I am STILL laughing so hard over your description! LOL).
Anyway, I learned the routine last night using my Johnson set of coins and an expanded (heads) Kennedy shell...I do like the structure of Jack's routine, but even with my "quality" shell I would not place all three coins in a row on a close-up mat. There's simply too much bulk to hide. A better strategy might be to transfer the coins from hand-to-hand while casually showing them on both sides. I noticed that the skin from my palms and fingers seems to hide the extra bulk quite well. I will probably receive my coin set either today or tomorrow and will report back if I notice anything else that's worth reporting. |

I should mention that the Carpenter routine is strong. The last vanish of the two coins fooled me badly. I have changed it somewhat. That two coin vanish is so strong that I felt the subsequent vanish of the silver coin and the retrieval of all three from the pocket was anti-climatic. So using the vanish of two as cover I ditch the silver coin using Sean Goodman's Secret Servante. Then I show that the silver coin has also vanished. One-two Pow! Showing my hands squeaky clean I retrieve all three coins from my pocket. Thunderous applause, strong men cry, etc. Like I said, my only audience is an ugly old *** so I don't know if the change is a good idea. |

Sounds good! Just a thought why not start with three normal coins first then in the action of showing the spectator what you are going to do you place normal silver coin in pocket and then switch for gimmick and away you go, this way you can start clean and get them to examine coins

Dan,
What a great usage for Sean's gimmick. I have to give this a try..."Thunderous applause and grown men crying" is what I aspire to! |

Thanks for mentioning my baby, Secret Servante Dan.... Anyone needing it, let me know!
I’m not really convinced about how much better this is though compared to the normal CSB.... It’ll be good to see some better footage tbh. Plus, I don’t like the constant reaching for the pocket either... Hey ho
