Roger Nicot has a new effect, SOZA - The Sword of Za'Atar. It was to debut at Blackpool (not sure if it did or not) but it is now available from Card Shark. Video:

Was going to buy it at MagiFest because I liked the look but saw Christian demo it and it was a sloppy mess to be kind. In his defense, he said he hadn’t had time to practice it and Roger wasn’t there to demo it.

Hi Guys..... Unfortunately, due to the scheduling conflict between MagiFest and the SAM National, I had to split my time between Columbus and Las Vegas. In his defense, Christian didn't get much time to practice SOZA before MagiFest. We each have our "specialties" we like to demo at conventions. For instance, Christian has a far superior handling for the Destiny Deck than I. David Regal saw SOZAt at The Session Convention in London and loved it. He gave it a superlative review in the April issue of Genii Magazine. If any of you guys want some pointers with the handling, I am at home in the UK making Bar Cups and the Sword of Za'Atar. We could do a video chat on either Skype or FaceTime. Just remember, I am in the UK time zone. Shoot me an email: roger@card-shark.de and we can set up a time for the chat.

I purchased one of these from Roger at the SAM convention in Jan. I think Roger has created a little gem here. The basic effect of coin through match has been around forever but have to admit Roger fooled me with this. He has added some clever subtleties combined with a beautiful prop that really elevates this into a cool piece of close-up magic. Everything is fully examinable. Nothing is gaffed in the traditional sense but he has capitalized on a unique aspect of the props that elevates this into a real mystery.
I love when people are able to elevate what some might consider "slum" magic into a real performance piece and Roger has done that in my opinion with SOZA aka the Coin thru Match. |

Really like the look of this.
Looks very clean, but how easy is this to perform smoothly, bearing in mind the sloppy demo mentioned above..? |

To quote David Regal's review in the April issue of Genii Magazine, "Mr Nicot has taken this odd duck of a trick and transformed it into an elegant mystery with props you will be proud to own and handle." "This is a wonderful pocket effect that combines precision-made props with (very) basic sleight of hand skills, and together it all forms something charming." Although I am not here as much as most, the easiest way to contact me is through my email: roger@card-shark.de Thanks. |

I received my Sword of Za'Atar. Nicely made piece. Even the sword was machined by Roger from stainless steel.
Roger's handling is genius! Yes, it requires a little practice but watch his demonstration video above again. The handling is extremely clean and natural. One feature of the handling (that Roger dreamed up) is absolutely brilliant. Larger version: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-PfdD......Db74.jpg I'm 100% thrilled with my purchase. Thank you, Roger! Paul: You use a nickel in the U.S. Mark P.S. I also have Roger's Bar Cup Reloaded on the way. I expect it to be delivered in 2-3 days. Mark

Yeah, this is one of those perfect little items to have in your magic display case or just out on display waiting for someone to inquire about THE SWORD OF ZA'ATAR.
It's made really well. Just like Roger's Bar Cup is a thing of beauty, so is this little wooden tube and sword. Roger must certainly be a perfectionist. My only super tiny quibble with it is I wished it could fit a US quarter only because I do many more effects with a quarter so it would have opened up more possibiities to maybe follow it up with. But hey, no matter. What could possibly follow the SWORD OF ZA'ATAR? |

I had no desire to buy this but as is often the case with me, I got bored and ordered. Glad I did. This is just plain fun to perform and I’m surprised how good the reactions have been. I wish it was a tad longer and I’ve noticed that some of the new nickels get stuck, but other than that, I like this a lot. Was worried about how the final load would be managed but laughed out load at how efficient and simple method is. Sometimes simple is better. You need a table because of the final load, but it’s worth it.

I’m impressed with the quality of this. And it fooled my son has an engineer mind. He couldn’t believe it was ungimmicked. It’s fun to do the penetration twice in a row.

Meanwhile in Germay.... yes, I got better in performing it. It was literally the first two days of having the item at MagiFest.
I was literally practicing while performing it. Once the movements get naturally, and you understand what you are doing, it is sooo much fun to fool people with it.
