Hi guys,
I am looking for your ideas with this. Couldn't find any post focusing on this topic/material specifically. With my close up pads I usually use this in between the fabric layer and the wooden surface as a cushion: https://www.polstereibedarf-online.de/po......re/a-202 I am sure there is a better alternative for that. Do you use something better that you can recommend me (even better with a link to it )? Best, Kaan |

Automobile headliner, just get some at your local automobile seat cover repair business. It comes with the cloth attached to the foam backing already.

Kaan... I have had good luck using large mouse pads from Office Depot on the close up stages I have made.
Good luck, Bruce |

When I redid the counter at Wizards at Universal Citywalk, I used a layer of neoprene, then the fabric that I liked that had the right surface for cards and coins. It lasted for years.

Very much like "Goldilocks", some were too hard and some were too soft (spongy) but AUTOMOBILE HEADLINER MATERIAL was "Just Right". I get mine at JoAnn Fabrics (They sell it off a large roll just like other fabrics and I usually have a 60% off any regular priced item coupon) and it is not very expensive anyway. Locally, I can get Black, Grey and Tan (light tan). I have made a few for myself and some for friends in my local club.

Best padding in my opinion is the foam sold at the fabric store. If you then get some Billiard Table felt, you will have an excellent close up pad. You can just fold the felt over the edges and stitch it like recovering a chair seat cushion, if you leave the back open you can exchange the felt or foam easily if get spoiled.

It just depends on the durability you need. Open cell foam like you get at a fabric store is cheaper and easier to source but also wears out faster. That's the only reason I suggested a closed cell foam like neoprene due to it's longer lasting qualities. Then again, I was using mine in a commercial application where it was used every day so take that for what it's worth.

I make all of my tables and pads using a yoga mat for this purpose -- here's a link to what I am referring to. One $5 yoga mat can provide enough for multiple tabletops and pads.
