I need “Apples-to-Apples” info:
I have a Kueppers Morgan CSB and a Swadling Expanded Shell, which will NOT nest. I have a Johnson Kennedy CSB, but I do not have a Johnson Expanded Shell to test. If someone has time on their hands, I’d like info on the fit and coverage. If pictures, send to my email (If anyone also has Schoolcraft CSB and exp Shell I would like same info. ) stephonicus@gmail.com Thanx in advance! Steph

Can't do a photo just now, but my Johnson Kennedy Expanded Shell does nest over each of the three coins in my Johnson CSB set (Chinese coin, Mexican centavo, Chinese/centavo/Kennedy gaff.
Naturally, the centavo is smaller in diameter than a half dollar or the Chinese coin, so it's a looser fit under the shell (side to side motion). Might or might not be a problem. Kennedy exp shell fits great over the Chinese coin and the nested gaff, in terms of width/diameter. Of course, the Johnson Chinese coins are slightly on the thick side, so depth coverage is not quite as great over them as it is over a regular half dollar, but still not too bad.

Thanks Karnak,
I was mostly referring to the Shell nesting over the entire CSB Assembly. But you answered that and more! Thank you! Steph

Still would love to see pictures from anyone home-quarantined. Any manufacturer as long you know the maker of both.
Thanks Steph

I used to have the Johnson CSB and expanded. I am pretty sure the expanded fits over the CSB just as it would over a
half dollar. Because Johnson makes the CSB in regular half size. Correct me if your experience differs. but Johnson likes to leave a little play with their expanded halfs so that they can fit different diameters of halfs. So it would not normally be the tight fit of a custom expanded, made for that CSB set. |

I forgot that older style expandeds weren't expected to cover most of the depth of the coin.
It sure makes it hard to work with those when spectators see them from the side and notice the coin edge sticking out. Newer expandeds sure make for easier coin routines. |

Yes, my own non-silver, non-1964 Kennedy expanded shell (Johnson make, tails shell so date unknown but I would guess of 1990s or later vintage) fits the nested CSB gaff a bit better, depth-wise, than the 64 Kennedy shell in the photo above.
