here is my version of the worlds scariest trick:
1. read out some parts of John S. Marr`s " Wormwood". if you know the book, you will know the right parts. 2. perform the "Noodle Cup" routine. use an earthworm instead of the ring and maybe a yoghurt cup instead of the noodle cup. 3. now comes the scarry part - explain how the trick works. i guess a lot of poeple in the audience will start to buy only canned products in the future.
It is not enough to be without thoughts,
one should also be unable to express them. |

I think we as magicians – especially new magicians get caught up in words that don’t really apply to magic.
Best, worst, scariest, etc – these are opinion. What is best for me – may not be best for you? Would you ask – What is the best movie in the world? Or for this topic – what is the scariest movie in the world? I might think that the original Nicholson “The Shinning” is by far the scariest, but you might be more of a fan of the classics and mention “The Birds” or “Psycho” – or you could be a fan of the splatterpunk era and insist that “Texas Chainsaw massacre” is the scariest. Nobody is right – nobody is wrong – this is all opinion. This is ever so true in our art. If I tried to pull off a sponge ball routine, no matter how hard I might want to be good at them – my persona – just isn’t “sponge worthy.” It’s not me and my spectators could see that. Case in point, I don’t do children’s magic – why? Because I come across as a jerk a lot of times. I don’t try to – it’s just me. What do I “think” is a scary trick” Do you want my opinion? Well, a rubber spider is not my idea of scary – that ranks right up there with elementary school haunted houses. I once scared my art teacher with a single bill levitation and I wasn’t trying to – but it scared her (I didn’t even know she was watching). Blaine scared the living (expletive deleted) out of that lady on the street when he pulled the thread from his stomach – she pulled her child away to protect him from the evil magician! Did you see that one? Each one of us – defines “scary” and “best” and “worst” in a different way. Forgive my Jedi-like words, but – “You must find your own path my young padewan.” My two cents – hope that helps, |

I agree that to use the term "scariest" is a matter of opinion. The Web doesn't leave anything to the spectator's imagination (and what goes on in our imaginations is MUCH more scarier than anything we can show anyone), or maybe he/she will imagine that we are an a**hole like this all the time trying to scare people off in a cheap manner! Also, you will never catch me in a bizarre setting making a plastic prop appear like that. But then again, this is just my opinion...
