My son recently picked up an excellent magic book "The Practical Encyclopedia of Magic" by Nicholas Einhorn (ISBN 0-681-78333-8), on sale at 'BORDERS' for just $5.99.
This is an excellent book for beginners and I highly recommend it. It has 256 pages and over 1000 color pictures. More than 120 tricks have been explained. Good value for your money. :xmas:

Good for him...although it will only be a matter of time before someone posts here, bemoaning the fact that so many tricks have been revealed in one cheap book...and what about the future of magic?
Somehow, the future of magic will survive, and kids like your son will learn from the book and amaze others. Best of luck.

I have this book as well,
It is great. Teaches the Matrix which is worth the price of the whole book. I recommend this as well. -Blake-

So many pages of magic for so little money. Not fair. You should try the internet or peer to peer sharing programs. You will be amazed at what is available for free. The cost of things will become minimal. I just hope who ever reads this is not the person that puts David Roth and Jeff McBride on these programs because you are confusing laymen. They think all of us are that good and it makes them actually respect us. LOL Seriously. Good for him. I hope he gets it down well and becomes very good and when he writes a book about magic when he is a good magician I hope he remembers how much his first book cost and then makes it available to those who really want to learn at a fair price. |

Hi steve & abc,
My above post was meant as information for our upcoming and budding magicians. The book (though elementary for me) was picked up for my collection as I'm also a collector of magic books, vids, props etc. P.S. My son is 28 years old and loves to watch magicians perform, including his Dad . He is an IT Security professional.

That is a load more than I have.
Just a quick question. Do you have secret remedies in India to make you look younger? I'll buy them any day |

I have this book. It's a great beginner book, totally inexpensive and was actually informative. I learned a few new things and got some clarification on some vaguaries by way of great pics. I got mine at Border's also.

A similarly high quality book is "The Amazing Book of Magic & Card Tricks" by Jon Tremaine -- out of print, I believe, but available from other book sellers at Amazon.com for about $5 to $10. DaveS

I bought the encyclopedia book too. I found the pictures to be very helpful. There is another book by this author (I think) just on close up magic.

Let me give you a little advice about boocks. I had been reading my brother's Giant Book Of Card Tricks and I loved it but the only problem is, that it's harder to understand when you are reading a book than to watch it. But still, I love reading books.

I have a few books & I feel that if you want the clasics or you have ben practicing magic for more than a year sure by a book, but if you are just starting your magic carer I would sugest a video. I know after I post this everyone is gona hate it but when I started out I bought a video of "50 card tricks with a normal deck" & it has helped so much.

Now I find this a strange post... Why?? Well, I went to the new `Borders' store in Rapid City to check it out. As I walked in the front entrance, there was a BARGIN SECTION. Being cheap, I quickly scanned the selection and a large book with the red words MAGIC caught my eye. Yep, it was `The Practical Encyclopedia of Magic' for $5.99.
I bought it because it looked like a good deal. And it is a pretty good book.. I wanted to look up some info about the book and author so I went to GOOGLE and the search led HERE... to this post!!! Now that worried me. Does that mean everything we talk about and comment on can be brought up with a simple GOOGLE search??? And to think, we are concerned about a book being sold cheap... They can get it for free off of us by what we reveal in our posts... something to think about!!
The Doctor will see you now! ;-)

Yes. In the open forums, everything can be Googled as I understand it. The Banquet Rooms, being a protected area, are not open to view, which is why we don't discuss specific techniques and gimmicks in the open forums.
For more information on what is and isn't viewable by the general public, check the Ettiquete forum as I believe that there is more information in there regarding searches from the outside. Hope this helps! Lee Darrow, Staff
