Hey. So I'm not new to the forum. Or magic for that matter (been in this game for two years already). Looking for opinions on what books I should add to my library.

Currently, I have:
1. Modern Magic by Hoffman
2. The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne
3. Modern Coin Magic by Bobo
4. The Royal Road by Hugard
5. Expert Card Technique by Hugard
6. The Expert At The Card Table by Erdnase
7. Card College Light by Giobbi
8. Strong Magic by Ortiz
9. Designing Miracles by Ortiz
10. Magic and Showmanship by Nelms

I'm planning on getting more Giobbi books. Like Lighter and Lightest, and 1-5. Also, looking at getting the Art of Switching Decks by Giobbi.

Thinking about RCT by Marlo. Reprint this month! Should I get it?

What about Drawing Room Deceptions by Guy Hollingworth? Or Mnemonica by Tamariz?

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Stay safe and stay magical!

Josh

What kinds of magic do you want to do? If just cards, I’m the wrong one to give advice, but Harry Lorayne will be along soon to tell you he wrote the good stuff just for you.

If you want a broad selection of good magic, Tarbell belongs on your shelves.

Glad you have The Magic Book - assume you're READING it. If so, time for the other good stuff, like: ONLY MY APOCALYPSE, JAW DROPPERS TWO, AND FINALLY!, LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Volumes 2, 3. 4 and 5 (vol. 1 sold out), SPECIAL EFFECTS, and so on.

I will say that I enjoyed reading through Drawing Room Deceptions and Mnemonica. Both are fantastic books and I would say that if you have any interest in learning a stack then pursue Mnemonica first. Also, definitely anything with Harry's name attached to it you cant go wrong with

Mentalism is a funny beast. It isn’t like regular magic.

For books, get Corinda’s 13 Steps. Some people call it the Bible of mentalism. I disagree. It is more of a textbook, actually. It is hard to suggest good introductory material, but I do think Ross Johnson’s dvd Simply Psychic is good. The usual complaint, that the audience doesn’t respond enthusiastically, is a strength, in that you get to see how a real pro deals with a lukewarm audience. Once you’ve done some of the stuff from each, you’ll be able to decide what else might appeal to you in the realm of mentalism.

For wide-ranging but excellent encyclopedic works covering many sub-specialties (not just card magic), Henry Hay’s AMATEUR MAGICIAN’S HANDBOOK and Mark Wilson’s COMPLETE COURSE IN MAGIC come to mind as essential. Look for the large hardback versions of each, not the small paperback editions.
For a supernatural chiller mixing magic (prestidigitation, legerdemain) with Magic (occultism, mysticism), check out my novel MAGIC: AN OCCULT THRILLER at http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Occult-Thriller-Reed-Hall/dp/1453874836

My 2 favorite Card Magic books I've read lately are Principia - Harapan Ong & Interpreting Magic - David Regal.
Both are must have's. 10 out of 10.
