"Quite frankly, the cussing and bad language put me off long before the drawn out dull procedure made me fall asleep. Mr L writes great books, but this was a crude snooze fest." Now, having just read that, can you see why some might have gotten a little defensive? The post could have stopped at the notion that the cussing and bad language put me off. But Smooth Criminal just had to get nasty himself, dull procedure, snooze fest, etc. Come on, that was a great performance and if someone pays attention, they should be amazed that not only can Harry do the trick, he can do the memory stuff at the same time and oh yeah, come up with funny come-backs to comments in the audience. It was a delight to behold. Harry is owed more respect than SC gave him. That is fact. There was no need to get petty. As far as being attacked, I think that is somewhat a matter of perception. Perception is subjective. What passes as an attack is at a pretty low level these days. To some, any disagreement whatsoever is an attack. I'll defend Harry's performance till the cows come home. It was amazing and for the setting, perfect. I didn't see anyone complaining or running for the doors. The other thing is about user names. I choose to use my nickname given to me by my wife. There's a whole story behind it but I won't bore you. I do it for fun, not to be anonymous. I'd be happy to tell anyone who I am and I have never said anything I'm ashamed of or need anonymity for in the first place. There are some threads I wish I had just ignored, but I don't need to hide any of my statements behind an alias. Besides, if I did use my name, since nobody here knows me, what difference would it make?

Well said Tortuga.
There was only one attack here. Smooth Criminal entering a thread in praise of Mr. Lorayne with a put down. |

The routine and performance was great, the audience seemed to be having a great time.

What I meant there is that I'm doing the original version of What A M-E-S on that video - back in 1991. I haven't performed the "full" original version is a looong time. I do the shorter version which I taught in a book (or two?), but can't think of which one at the moment...I've written too many.

It’s in JawDroppers 1 I think. That’s why I said earlier I wish you’d reprint it (or maybe digitize it). Doesn’t seem to be available to buy anywhere even on the second hand market and it’s not in any of the Classic Collections. I’ve already got JawDroppers 2 and And Finally (just to address magicfish’s suggestion earlier).

I might just have to get a copy of Jaw Droppers Two or And Finally, even if it was written by someone that once dared to stoop to "cussing and bad language" at a convention
My library is light on Harry Lorayne books, I think The Card Classics of Ken Krenzel is getting lonely. |

Why do I have the feeling that too many of the newbies don't know about the book - or even know my name. It's a new magic world out there Many, too many, simply don't know about - or care about - the good stuff!.

I have taken an honest look at the authors you mention, I own their works, study their materials and very much enjoy their work.
But I would take JawDroppers and JawDroppers Two in heartbeat. And unlike you, I mean no disrespect to the wonderful artists mentioned above. |
