Do I want to tell them what card they're thinking of? YES! Do I want to know if they're a truth-teller or a liar? YES! But without seeing what procedure is required, there's absolutely no way to evaluate this effect. Will I be comfortable doing what it takes in order to perform it? How transparent is the process? How many steps to it and how time consuming will it be?
I love Jamie's stuff but I need a promo that informs me what the effect will really look like.

Ok, I have seen the first 35 minutes and all I can say is: I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! Seriously? The methods are really stupid to say the least. Maybe this would fool 1 in 20 people online but no way will this fool anyone face to face. Besides, the trick says this will work EVERY TIME. No way, this will not work every time. The "trick" (really not a trick if they're telling you which cards they have and then you reveal one of the cards they showed you) with the cards, I can guarantee most people will mess up the order and this will not work. The video is not even an instructional video. It's this guy speaking to another about his methods... I really can't watch anymore it's so boring!! This could have been summed up in an 15-20 minute video (at the very most). Seriously, I can't believe I just spent $20 on this! I mean, come on! Think of a number, multiply by X, add them together, etc. and 3 minutes later he says "the number you were thinking of was...". Seriously? That's magic? I would not have bought this for $0.99! But then again, I dare you to buy it...

Gary you are entitled to your opinion but I think you are really misrepresenting this product with your description. You purchased it, did not watch it and then quickly made a post here. What you are describing here is a small part of the product and doesn't represent what this product is all about.

As I said above, I finished watching the whole thing. Everything is based on the "think of a number", add, multiply, etc. Everything apart from a very silly card trick where the person actually tells you the first few cards and the reveals are two of the cards he told you at the beginning. I mean, wow...

Hey everyone! Firstly, I really hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! I'm here to help answer any questions you may have in regards to VMRS!
Jonathan1000, I absolutely and whole heartedly agree! I think seeing a trailer which shows as much as possible and as accurately as possible is essential. However, with VMRS, because the method is essentially words in this case, a performance would tip the method to most magicians. That being said, I would still like to try and address some of your concerns which are valid points! In the download, I discuss several different methods for the 'process' part. Each caters to a different need. For example, one will require your participant to have a deck of cards, another does not. I think they really important thing to note is that, the process section on this routine is probably the tiniest part of the overall effect. I have structured the routine in a way that the 'dirty' work is looooong forgotten about by the time the revelation happens. Furthermore, the main part of the effect in which they hold a real or fake object and lie or tell me the truth requires no procedure on the part of the spectator. They don't have to switch hands or move it anywhere. If we were to explain what should happen, it would be simply, "A spectator places a coin in one hand, then then either lies or tells the truth. And then you reveal if they are lying or telling the truth and which hand it is in". That is exactly what happens. And finally, with the full VMRS routine, you are able to predict, way in advance what object the spectator is going to pick from a list of 100 (or more if desired) items without performing anymore procedure. In my mind, procedure is absolutely necessary to pull of some of the things we do. But the most important part is making it simple, direct, justified and as invisible as possible. And that is what VMRS does! So I know that doesn't show the full process but I hope it goes someway to answering some of your questions! Gary1976, thank you for your brief review of the effect! I fully respect your opinion and understand if it isn't your cup of tea. I do, however, stand by my product with confidence. VMRS has been something I have been developing for more than 3 years now! Followers of my work will vouch for that with the first version of this which I called "Mizaru". It was the first time I used the VMRS principles in an effect and performed it on stage, in parlour and occasionally close up when the time was right. It never failed to get great reactions. It was when I started showing fellow magicians and it fooled them that I realised that what I was working on could be really special, and so I carried on developing methods. I wanted to strip everything right back and considered what it would be like to have just some coins and my words. Then I came up with the 'Which hand' variant which I share in the PDF that accompanies the download. I started gigging it in my residencies and it became a challenge piece. Spectators wouldn't believe it, so they would ask me to do it again and again and asking me to do it to their friends to see if I could tell if they were lying or telling the truth. (occasionally the odd couple would ask if I could tell if their other half was lying) I ended up creating tons of variations and publishing it as "The Tracker" book. Fast forward to lockdown, I wanted to continue spreading magic in someway and spent about 4 weeks researching and developing a live virtual show that would still get strong reactions whilst being simple enough to perform via Zoom. So I researched some of the greats and that led me to the likes of Max Maven. Arguably one of the most influential mentalists in the world. I also checked out the work of Penn and Teller and Woody Aragon. All of these highly influential and successful magicians have used methods similar to this in their performances not only in theatre but also on TV. David Copperfield and Lance Burton too. They all seem to have done pretty well out of performing process driven effects on TV! As you will see from the performances, VMRS gets incredible reactions and I'm sorry to say, if the process section of this product is what you are taking the value from, then I urge you to look a little deeper. It's about scripting, combining methods, routining and getting as much milage out of something as possible. Let's be realistic, this is magic over video so of course you will not be able to perform magic as direct as in person. But from the scripting, to the routining. From the procedures to the reveals, every single part of this has been thought out to make this a workable, fooling and highly engaging piece of magic! In terms of the production, this project has been the most intense I have ever produced. It took 4 days of filming, we ended up with 4 cameras worth of footage. The footage took 3 days to send over the net because of the file sizes and then the editing process took another week. All in, it took about 3 weeks minus the planning. But the end result, in my opinion is phenomenal! This has never ever been done before, a product has never been filmed in this way so it was a huge learning curve for all involved. When I saw the first cut, I was blown away by what the guys had managed to produce under these conditions. If I were a customer, I would be absolutely happy with what I was watching! I stand by my product, I am hugely proud of it and I know those who invest their energy in trying this for real, will love it as much as I do. Stay safe and spread magic! Jamie Daws

Hi Jamie, I'm happy and support the way you stand by your product. However, seriously, in my most honest opinion, out of the well over 100 magic videos I own, this is by far the most boring one I have seen. When you purchase a download, you expect the magician to be "talking to you" and explaining how things are done to you. Why have a split screen and explain everything to someone else who just agrees to everything you say? One more thing, if the 2-digit number they think of is 83 (or any number that adds up to 11), then there is "one more step to be taken, right? Because the first person I performed this to, my 10 year-old son chose that number.
All I'm saying is that I really hope someone buys this to see what they have to say. |

Oh, and I guess I can't get my money back, right? Even though you say that this ALWAYS works... It doesn't. That awful card trick... cards may get misplaced, and every time that happens, then it won't work. Because if you do this over a webcam, you can't see 100% of what the other person is doing.

Hey Gary, thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, we did the best we could with the production. I for one really enjoy seeing two magicians discussing methods on a magic DVD. I often enjoy it on the Penguin lectures when Dan Harlan talks to the guests and unfold even more methods and theory. But, different people enjoy learning in different ways. My concerns here have just been realised by the confusion you are having with one of the methods. Effects like this do take practice to understand what is going on. I assist in a local school during the days and have extensively tried this on children. They have always been fine with it but as with most magic that goes wrong, generally the error is in that of the performer and not the participant. Spend time learning the effect and understating it. Also, you have solely focused on the process driven part without considering what that does for you. There is way more to this than just that tiny section. And yes, it does always work as long as you practice it, refine it and actually try it. So far you have told us that you didn't completely watch it, you have immediately without much understanding tried out one of the methods without practice, you have completely disregarded the rest of the routine, you have said that the general public will not be fooled buy it (despite many notable magicians using similar methods) which means all those I have performed it to, all those others have performed it to, none of those spectators were at all fooled. Those performances (which are shown in full on the download) were not real reactions at all.
I am 100% okay with it not being your cup of tea, but all claims made are true. If you don't want to put the time into learning it, trying it for real people before judging it and fail to see the value in it other than the process sections, then I'm afraid, there isn't much I can do for you. That being said, I have responded to you via a pm to try and help you with the part you were stuck on and I wish you well Gary! Jamie Daws

I'll admit that this effect doesn't much interest me, but will say that I appreciate the way that Jamie has responded to a highly critical review. It is difficult to take the high road in such situations and it's nice to see, especially when it's so easy and common for conversations to resort to mudslinging.
