I have a beautiful Viking Ball Vase and have finally decided to start practicing again. Does anybody have any good routine tips besides the norm? Sorry if this has been discussed previously a million times

Mike skinner has a routine that has a color change in it. it looks pretty good and would most likely fool the people that know how the basic trick works. the routine is in intimate miracles.

The best routine is the Ed Marlo routine published in Genii I believer back in the 60's or 70's.

Skinner's routine can also be found in the videos that Michael did for A-1

If anybody takes their Ballvase routine serious...I strongly recommend the Viking Magic Ball vase. George created the most beautiful working prop I have ever seen and used!!

Mike Gallo has a very clever Ball Vase routine in his lecture notes, that is worth taking a look at.

I happened to watch a video of Mike going his routine today and I have to agree with Mr. Givens.

Mike's routine is wonderful, natural and like all of his magic perfectly routined.

Several years ago I was working a hospitality suite for a big, international paint supply company, and they decided to give magic tricks away as souvenirs. One of the tricks they were giving out was the ball and vase -- they had hundreds of cheap plastic sets to give out. The salesmen were joking with me about how they were magicians, too, and they started performing the ball and vase for me.

So I went over to where they had the tricks stashed, picked up two of them that were the same color, and planned my "attack."

I discovered that by combining traditional cups and balls moves with the various gaffs available, you could come up with a really nice set of moves to use with a ball and vase. An extra ball is about all you need, although if you have an extra ball of a different color and an extra gaff of a different color, you could do real miracles with this "silly little kid trick."

If you hold the gaff correctly, you can make it look like a ball, for example. Just hold it between the thumb and base of the index finger, and bring your index finger around the gaff until it touches the tip of the thumb, concealing the rim of the gaff, and it will look surprisingly like a ball.

Harry Riser has a ball-vase-cone routine in Feints and Temps of Harry Riser.

It uses a ball-vase and a leather cone.

Gallo's routine is also in The Collected Almanac by Kaufman and Marlo's routine (which requires two sets) can be found in Arcade Dreams as well. I combine the two and enjoy occasionally frying the guy who used to have a few tricks he bought off the revolving Adam's rack.

The Magic of J.N. Hofzinserhas a presentation that uses an egg vase as part of the routine. He does some work with a real egg, then has it pass into the egg vase. It's a beautiful concept.

I just recieved the Viking Ball Vase yesterday. I cannot wait to start performing with it. I liked the Viking version because of the ability to utilize a silk routine in the normal ball routine. Maybe you can use a silk with other versions as well (i don't know). I'm not sure whose routine uses this (??)

The Magic Menu Vol. 1 book has a routine.

I don't remember the routine, but when I sold 'em in a magic shop some years ago, combining some sleights and switches you could do some great stuff with the prop.

I have to agree with davidmagic-the gallo routine is very good. I saw him do it a number of years ago at denny and lee, but only recently got the collected almanac (a must have BTW!)

Years ago, a friend of mine had a magic shop. He received a bunch of Ball & Vase sets in a shipment that he marked down, because he couldn't think of a good routine for it. I told him that I'd think about a routine and five minutes later I was demoing the thing. I simply imagined it with a plot similar to Chop Cup. He liked the routine so much that he hiked the price, substantially. lol

There're a few routines in the Tarbell Complete Course (me'thinks it's vol. 8).
