Hello. I’m Tom; Sheffield UK
Interested in card magic specifically memory tricks and anything to keep my mind active (two young kids - brain going to mush). I’m also a secondary teacher and half considering starting a school magic club. Does anyone have experience of that and what good starting points there are Thanks |

Hi Tom.
Welcome to the Magic Café forum. Do you have any books or dvds? Is there a theater club at your school? Everything is zoom nowadays. |

Hello Tom ...
if you are a teacher, and considering a school magic club, then I highly recommend Mark Wilson's "Complete Course In Magic". An old book, but an invaluable resource, which can be picked up from ebay (go for the hard back). For example, it has a section of classic stage illusions. Detailing: effect, secret, preparation (materials and dimensions), and method. here is a taster ... arabian tent illusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=831gPgHk5-4 haunted house illusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBaN-q07Spg victory cartons illusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aTIFMkAaNM For me, it has to be the "Farmer and the Witch" illusion. An illusion where people change places in front of the audience which leaves them totally confused. All are an ideal school magic performance ... the creation of props, team play, rehearsal, performance. There you have it - planning, preparation and appraisal. As an ex-primary teacher I can say this is a real "can-do" team builder. All are ideal "end of term" shows with high student participation. If you are anywhere near me, I would love the opportunity to come see the performance if you pursue this!! kind regards, Geoffrey Smith - from Beverley |

Yes - Victory Carton Illusions - is great for an inexpensive start - also Farmer and witch/switch is nice - but you need a backstage assistant and an off stage area. Though easy to make

Both the I.B.M. and the S.A.M. have/had magic clubs for youngsters. These are undoubtedly the place(s) to start as there are proven programs available that will help you achieve exactly your stated goals.
Have FUN! |
