I personally think coin magic is one of the hardest forms of close up magic. Think about it with cards there are hundreds of self working tricks that provide instant gratification. But with coins even the simplest of tricks require the ability to palm.
My seven year old son Ryland has been working on coin magic for about a year now. It’s been a long road and he still has lots to learn but he’s dedicated. In fact I put him to bed tonight and went upstairs thirty mins later and he’s got five half dollars under the duvet with a torch! The kids obsessed! Anyway this is his latest video for his YouTube channel. It’s a coin routine with a coin box based on Roth’s work. There are some very tricky moves in there including a classic palm. I think he nails it! I’d love to know your thoughts. He reads every comment and loves to see what people think of his magic. If you get time and you like the video subscribe to his channel because he loves that! Thanks for reading and watching! https://youtu.be/v5NfHFBYLPU |

Great job Ryland!! Especially being able to do the trick with that size coin! Looks like new coin guy is going to give his Dad a run for his money:). Keep up the good work!

Wow! Great job Ryland, I'm impressed.
Your dad said you might end up reading the comments, so if you do... I'd be really interested in hearing your fun, wild, and creative ideas for a potential story you could tell for the coins. Sometimes when I'm thinking about the storylines for my magic, I brainstorm a few ideas, and see if one in particular seems like a good fit. For example, I might tell a story about... 1. Four bank robbers who go to jail, then escape one by one (the jail could be the okito box), or... 2. Four men & women decide to sail across the ocean, but people keep falling out of the boat (okito box), or... 3. How you like to keep your money in the bank (okito box), but you keep finding things to spend it on... What about you? What kind of story sounds fun and exciting that you could use the coins and box in your hands to represent? I'd be interested to hear the ideas you come up with. Until then, I've subscribed to your youtube channel and look forward to your future uploads. (Dad, if that's too high level, feel free to just read him the compliments - just wanted to be supportive and help nudge the creative process along)

I read everything I wrote and he has spent the last two days reworking the trick based on your observations. He’s settled on a presentation about Marvels Avengers who are locked in a prison and are trying to break out one by one. He’s even added an extra phase to tie in with the new presentation. Thanks so much for writing this. It helped very much and has taken his learning in an entire other level. Thanks very much. Once he has this new presentation nailed We will put it on YouTube. I’d love to credit you as the inspiration for the new presentation. Would you mind telling me your name so he can give you a shout out on the video. Thanks again so much. |

I'm really glad that he's taken the information and run with it, coming up with his own ideas. That makes me proud, so I'm sure it makes dad proud as well! Since posting my comment I've also enjoyed his unique take on the ninja/messado work & his Aces trick as well. All fun stuff, great movements, and quite deceptive! Keep on working on that stuff and it will really pay off as those years of practice start piling up. Thanks again for sharing Craig & Ryland - it's inspiring stuff!
