So let's say you've been using the Si Stebbins stack for a little while. You don't think there are any inconsistencies in the stack, but the time and annoyance of double checking it for errors just makes you want to take a nap. Can you perform perfect Faro shuffles? Then no problem.
Start with the Ace of Clubs on the bottom, and begin a series of "in" Faros until the deck looks like this: In hearts: 4-3-2-A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5 Spades 7-6-5-4-3-2-A-K-Q-J-10-9-8 Diamonds 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-A-K-Q-J and the Clubs K through A. Once you are there, double check the order and then simply complete three "in" Faro shuffles to get to Si Stebbins stack. You can also use this technique to quickly stack Stebbins order. Forgive me if this is is well known, but I stumbled upon it out of curiosity and didn't have anywhere else to share it! |

For the sake of everyone's sanity: I think you mean out-faros, not in-faros. It'd take 6 out-faros to get to the situation you describe. Then, after correcting, it'd take two to get back (not three.)
If you did mean in-faros, it'd take... lord... 50 in-faros to get to a "two away from back in order" suit-separated situation, then two more to get back to Stebbins. 52 in-faros strikes me as... sub-optimal. |

Darwin Ortiz's The Si Stebbins Secret published in Darwin Ortiz At The Card Table is a method that requires a couple of faros to reach Si Stebbins from NDO. Darwin has recently republished the book, I believe. Well worth the price.

Indeed, I missed the point.
There's a quick and very simple visual check (no calculations or faros required) that one can make to assess whether the Si Stebbins stack is intact. The method described by the OP is overkill. Only one run through the deck is required. |

Thanks for sharing. I wish I had the time for this!
If you know how to faro, just cut at 26, perform an incomplete faro and ribbon spread the cards on the table or carefully in the hands -- you will have the red/black mates paired and it's easy to see if something is out of order. Mike |
