For rare and hard to find magic books, I have found the posted sites on this thread to be completely useless.

The whole point about these sites is you have to keep looking; for example recently I was looking for a particular book published in the 1960s which had never been reprinted and it took me about 18 months before a copy finally turned up on ebay and of course I snapped it up. You just have to be patient and persistent and you'll get there in the end - though the price you pay may be quite painful! |

It's also true, for dealers like Byron Walker, that most of the really hard-to-find stuff is never posted on their websites. It's just not worth the effort for a single copy of a rare book. Serious buyers of this sort of thing have relationships with the appropriate dealers, and/or have "want lists" on file.
They're not just just hoping that a sought-after book will magically appear on some random website.

When used magic book dealers don't have that rare magic book you're looking for, then you're on your own. These posted sites have nothing. Absolutely nothing.

These posted sites have nothing. Absolutely nothing. They have a good selection of O.O.P. books that can no longer be purchased from the regular dealers, that isn't exactly 'nothing' is it?. The fact that you have a very particular book in mind that you just can't find in their stock hardly negates the good service they offer to many satisfied customers. One of these days they may suddenly acquire the exact book you're after, but if you are not checking their lists you'll never know about it and it'll just go to someone else. |

I think a lot of times they get those very books you're looking for, but somebody else beats you to it and then it is removed from their website. I've definitely seen some on the above websites over the years and I'm sure people can attest to purchasing OOP books on those websites in the past.
If they don't have them in stock at the exact time you are looking for them, that doesn't mean they're useless - it means your timing is off. |
