I'm after a Mene Tekel deck, and was surprised that there don't seem to be any listed for sale over at Penguin Magic (search results). All the other standard gaff decks are in ready supply (svengali, stripper, invisible deck, brainwave, mental photography, mirage, etc), but no Mene Tekel decks.

Does this go under another name and am I just looking for the wrong thing? Or is there another way that I should be sourcing (or making) this classic gaff deck?

Hello EndersGame,

I got some very good quality ones a year or two ago by looking on eBay. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the company now, but do recall they had a wide variety of Bicycle gaffed decks, and also the option for custom work.

The price was exceedingly good as I recall, then rose slightly thereafter for postage reasons.

So, try a search on eBay until you find a company that sells all sorts of other decks and that'll probably be it. I'll give it a whirl later tonight to see if I can find it again, too.

Hi again,

All right, I found it. It's the House of Chuckles:

When you get to their listing, just click on Mene Tekel in the menu. I see that now they have a huge selection of different decks in Mene Tekel format.

I've nothing to do with the firm, but found them pleasant to deal with.

Also, I ordered short decks from them for making customized Mene Tekels which obey some homebrew patterns.

That's really helpful Thomas, thanks for sharing that. It gives some nice options using custom decks.

One option I didn't think to consider is to just buy a Bicycle Short deck and then do the work needed to build a Mene Tekel deck by using that and a regular Bicycle deck.

Another option is using a Phoenix Double Decker and having a full Mene-Tekel.

Also, not all Mene-Tekel decks use the Long & Short principle. I have done quite a bit of research on this type deck not too long ago

The stuff by Nate Kranzo is really good and uses mates as in C/S & H/D so you can use all the cards his (now downloadable DVD) is full of great info. No special deck needed.

The book

Also, a recently added book to Lybrary which I don’t have “yet”

This should give you a good start anyway.

Terrific set of links, that's much appreciated!

That should keep me busy for a good while, and I think I now have all the resources I need - many thanks!

But to get the best options out of the Mene tekel deck I would advise using the long and short cards. Good idea buying a short deck. then you can make two MT decks. But cutting them down with any decent cutter is an option too. Check out the MRD deck by Liam Montier. Kranzo's is not available at Penguin but Montier's is.

Good suggestion. I think you can also get the downloadable video for the MRD deck seperately, and build the accompanying deck yourself.

If I'm not mistaken, Liam Montier's Memo uses the same gaff deck.

I am not suggesting all by Liam Montier is great. But when the reviews are good, his downloads are must buys. The Thick Card Project is another one.
Just brilliant.

This can be the cheapest gimmick deck you can easily build. Very deceptive. When you are comfortable performing, nobody will suspect this deck.
They can cleanly select a card in many ways, even them cutting to a card. You instantly have access to its double. Without all the controls, etc. I like sleights. but sometimes it feels great to just deceive people hehe.
All you need are two decks and a decent paper cutter. In Montier's handling, he shows how to convincingly show them all different,
and not just riffling through the deck either. excuse me for the double post.

I highly recommend House of Chuckles. He's such an awesome person to deal with and will answer all of your questions!
