I was just wondering, does Paul Harris even perform magic anymore? His books are among the best I've ever read, and from what I've heard, he's a pretty unique fellow, sometimes living as a wandering magical nomad. I heard once that he had an e-mail address, but I never found out what it was . . . he might want to keep it low-profile. I've talked to a few people who have met him, even had him stay at their house . . . I don't suppose he would ever come as far out as Alabama, though . . .
Does he still perform anywhere? In a restaurant somewhere way out in California, perhaps? Has he ever even been on television? He's the only magical legend --- meaning someone in the vein of Dai Vernon, Max Malini, T. Nelson Downs, etc. --- that I know of who is still alive. I'd like to meet him some day or at least see him perform. I realize there are videos of him in the Stars of Magic series, but these don't show real-life performing situations and they're exorbitantly priced. Was he ever on any magic specials? Does he still perform? He is one elusive dude . . . |

It is kind of mystical how he appears out of nowhere from time to time and just stops in at Hollywood Magic. I've been there on several occassions when that has happened.
I don't think he performs anymore, but hires himself out as a consultant. Greg

Back in 1979, a couple of buddies and I were just getting into magic and we had bought a couple of Paul Harris' early books. One day were having trouble figuring out one of his routines, and he published his Las Vegas home address in one of the books. So (like the idiots we were then) we called information, got his number, and called him. He was great. He talked to us for over an hour. We called him a few other times after that and were always amazed that he would even speak to us, but every time he was very gracious and helpful. Then in 1980, a magic shop in Pittsburgh brought Paul into town to do a seminar. My buddies and I of course signed up and we along with about 2 other guys showed up in his motel room and for about 3 hours, he just taught us stuff. It was unbelievable. I still have my autographed copy of "The Close Up Entertainer" from that session.
