Does anybody out there have a new impromptu trick? Every time somebody asks I am forced to show them the same tricks. Any suggestions?

One thing that I have done for over 20 years is to carry a deck of cards with me or some other small prop, like rubberbands. I have also carried for a long time a card to wallet effect, that I used as a regular wallet too. For me this method has worked well, and taking me of some difficult moments, furthermore opened numerous doors for business. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Matthias

Actually, what's I've found very helpful is more trying to turn effects that aren't nessicarily (in can't spell) impromptu into impromptu effects. Ex: the old cigarette ashes in palm is great, but you have to put the stuff in the place before hand. Gregory Wilson suggested borrowing lipstick and doing it on the fly. Another Ex: don't have your spongeballs? David Blaine had a great idea on his "Magic Man" special where he used leaves. No coins? use rocks for a few vanishes and reappearences. Find any kind of misdirection you want and make up a napkins through the table routine. Be creative. The world is full of magic, you just have to find it.
So I was sittin naked in a beanbag chair the other day eatin cheetos...

There are several Videos / DVD's out there only dealing with impromptu magic. eg. from Dan Harlan or as mentioned above from Gregory Wilson.
There's also the "Encyclopedia of impromptu Magic" book by Martin Gardner, which is maybe worth a look. Marco. |

Check out Patrik Kuffs dvd Mind stunts. There is an impromptu effect called Bold Business. A winner!

See if you can find a copy of Michael Weber's book Lifesavers for some original impromptu magic.

Just adding my two cents, but Karl Fulves has a series of books out on impromptu magic ..... just check Amazon .... most are pretty inexpensive and if you're looking for material with everyday objects, these should do the trick (pun intended)......of course as with all magic it'll be your presentation and the sense of wonder you create that they'll remember..good luck!

Think in terms of "shapes" and I'm sure you can come up with your own ideas.
If you've worked out sleights and routines with cigarettes (cylinder shape) then you can do something with a short pencil, crayon, a pen with a clip cap or even a rolled up piece of paper. At a bachelor party I once did cigarette vanishes, in flurry fashion, with a BIC lighter and the guys took a step backward in awe. Surprised me too! To follow up, I had one guy sit down and give me a shoelace. Funny site when everyone's been drinking. I then borrowed a wedding band and did a ring and string routine got some laughs. Did some thimble move with the ring too. When I stopped I was asked to do some more. They had cards and I did some tricks. Again I stopped and was offer $50 to do more. I declined but the guy kept at me. Not taking the money I asked for a dollar bill. Slowly and magically I began tearing the bill in pieces. I asked him to open his hand. Putting the bill in his hand I told him to close the hand. I waved my hand over his and told him to slowly open his hand. There lied the the torn up bill. Not restored as expected. The look he gave was wild. All I could say was, "Oops!". The other guy were cracking up. |

Found Link is a rubberband book that has pretty cool routines. I don't know it's feedback but it seems like a decent product that could be counted on.

Nice one Jaz! And you lived to tell about it! It's too bad the moment wasn't videotaped to capture the "Wow Factor!" I'd love to see that guy's expression!
