They really are very ubiquitous, most everyone has seen one before and is familiar with them. The toaster analogy is funny but actually a terrible analogy because that would fall into a totally different category if you were simply using it to hold a card or billet. However, if you were using it to heat up the card or billet then it may make total sense. Honestly not trying to be argumentative, I'm just a little confused because you stated that you weren't "saying that you HAVE to have "some Asian theme" in order to use it, I was just offering a possible solution for people who might want to use it but feel awkward bringing it out". But then your following statements seem to indicate that you DO feel a need NOT to just use it as is, without some justification. For instance, when you say "...using that cup without explaining why you're not having sushi while performing". Can't tell if you are joking or you actually feel that you need to explain it that way. As if to use it for anything other than an Asian theme would seem so out of place. I'm not sure that style of dish is even popular in Asia. Quote:

Because you mention eating at a Chinese restaurant, but then nothing you do after that has anything to do with your Chinese dinner with friends? I believe Tommy Wonder felt that a lame justification casts more suspicion on the object in question than no justification at all. But oh well, we all have different opinions. I see absolutely no need to try and justify a small, innocent dish that is only being used to momentarily hold and isolate your card or prediction. Like if you were performing an effect using an empty pickle jar, would there be a need to say that you were having some pickles with some friends the other day? |

The dinner thing might not be the best justification ever but I feel that it can be enough because then in their mind the link is done. And lol do you ever go around telling you were having pickles with friends the other day (I'm not a fan of the pickle jar by the way...). But hey totally fine to disagree on that, at the end of the day it's about what you're comfortable with! I was just suggesting the Asian theme in response to someone asking how you could bring that up, that was my answer - your answer was that you don't need any justification, people will choose what they feel suits their style more, that's also the beauty of The Café! |
