Control the chosen card to the top of the deck.
Mention that for you and other kids bitten by the magic bug, there was a very special location on the library shelves, no matter what town you lived in: 793.8, using the Dewey Decimal System [this might only be true in the USA -- sorry about that!]. "So, in memory of that magical number," you say. Deal seven cards into a pile, one at a time. "Seven." Put them on top of the deck. Deal nine cards into a pile, one at a time. "Nine." Put those back on top of the deck. Deal three cards into a pile one at a time. "Three." Put those back on top of the deck. Square up the deck. Slide off the top card and set it a little aside, pressing it down with your thumb. "Point." Deal eight cards into a pile, but deal a little slower and slower after the first four. "Eight." "Some might hope for something magical to happen at this very moment, including me. Some might be wondering what is the point?" "The point is right here," you say as you reveal the chosen card which had been put off to the side. |
