I found a ripping silk with a safty pin effect. It is by Nicholas Einhorn and I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of silks to use. Thanks in advance.

Matthias,
If the effect you are describing allows the magician to stick a safety pin through a silk and close it. Then the magician drags the closed safety pin down and off the silk with out tearing the silk. I learned the trick in the 60s from Slydini. It was just one of the side effects done in a Knotting Silks Routine. I will tell you that the "silks" used by Slydini were made of parachute cloth. However, if you will read the posts "Slydini Silks" (the best one requires that you have 50+ posts on The Magic Café) you will better understand why they were used. Using real silks may not be a problem. I don't know. It just went with the routine because Slydini Silks were what were already in the magician's hands. I will also tell you that larger safety pins work better than smaller ones. Bob Magic By Sander |

I think Karl Norman did something similar with a napkin for years.

As a child, I did the trick Bob spoke of with a man's white cotton handkerchief, not a silk.

Come on Donald, when were you a child? Now I know it's an old trick. Perhaps it's from when safety pens were high tech?
Actually, you do see a lot of old tricks come back with a new name and a new twist. That's one of the many things that make magic so much fun. Hankerchief magic should be required course work for magicians. As an old university professor, I'm proud of your being on the Dean's List too! Congratulations! Take care and keep posting.
