One of the best chari prediction routines I've ever done was in MUM Magazine a few months ago- it was in an article by Bob Steiner. It combined magician's choice with multiple outs- and it appears to be ENTIRELY under the direction of the audience- it seems that the audience gives the instructions as to who sits where, and of course, your prediction is infallable. If you want more info, I'll dig up the issue.

The swindle switch is beautiful. I open my show with it 5 chairs 5 envelopes. one audience member switches 2 people at a time holding envelopes.four switches of their choice the 5 envelopes read out B E G I N.
Well then...

There is also a smaller scale version on Andy Nymon's "Get Nymon" DVD, I really like this one, simple and direct, any thoughts?

I recently saw Geradi perform his chair prediction in one of his one man MIND shows in Canada and it really fooled me badly. I was with several other magicians and we had no idea how he did a lot of his material. We all agreed that we hadn't seen so much original material in a show in such a long time. What was really nice was that he was very approachable afterwards. I know he doesn't belong to any clubs or organisations so it's great to see him on MagicCafe. I sure hope he releases a book or DVD of his original material because after seeing it I know it is material that really works.

It just occurred to me what you mean. What a great approach. Is that the same Swindle switch Cassidy has in Principia and some of his other writings? If I get what you are saying, the spectators are not moved, just the envelopes they are holding are *exchanged* on the choice of another spectator. Just to clarify, you take and exchange the chosen envelopes from the nominated spectators, correct? Geez, I have played with the swindle switch from Principia Mentalia where I think it was used in a banknight routine. But this is a great application that never occurred to me. Cheers, Tom |

I have been approched many times to sell me chair routine, and still it is not for sale as it is the the first 12 min of my act.its a 4 phase routine that does invole the spectators moving as well.as for the envelopes,i touch nothing. as a matter of fact I sit in the audience with some popcorn and watch it unfold myself.fools me very badly!i do not think anyone would want to pay what I think this routine is worth, as a pro. cheers

You said you are writing a book and if I'm not mistaken that routine is included? Of course that is up to you its your routine you can charge or not charge what you want.
However I realised that selling many of my pads will have no effect directly to me. More than likely it won't affect you to. I might be wrong of course. Either way good luck with your shows! Shrink |

Hi Folks,
MANY of you asked about the Chair Prediction I mentioned from MUM... I went about looking for the issue, and I *BELIEVE* it is in the March, 2004 issue- as that's the only one I can't find right now, and the others do not contain the routine. I'd love to put the details out to you all, but it is a published routine, and the property of Bob Steiner, and probably copyright by Dave Goodsell (MUM Editor), and I want them to get proper credit and rights, so... find your March 2004 copy of MUM, or find a friend with one, and read up. I'll keep looking for my copy- but I believe I may have lent it out to another magician friend... I'll go looking. The routine is great. Bob put it in as an example of how combining simple, well known principles, can fool even otherwise knowledgable and skilled magi such as ourselves. It is great on muggles as well... I'll let you all know when I confirm Mar 04... if one of you do that before me, please post, thanks. Best, Dave |

Gary Kurtz put out a manuscript called The Ultimate Chairs Prediction Plus. His routine has four spectators take their choice of four chairs on stage.
After a humorous sort of reverse bank night effect, in which the four spectators get worthless pieces of colored paper in their envelopes, it is discovered that each person's colored paper matches the color of the back of their chair. The manuscript was published in 1994 and is, I'm sure, no longer available from Gary Kurtz, but maybe it can be located through used magic book dealers. Cheers, Jerry |

Ken Ring in New Zealand did a similar effect using four chairs and four people, he used a 'magnetic' principle on the envelopes, which was very clever and performed it in his school shows.
